- - looking to spend some time on the bike this winter, suggestions?

so I cleaned the garage yesterday and got all my tools back together for ease of use.

either way, I want to bring some more power to the engine and work on some body work.

Anyone have any suggestions to find a good walk through or tuning and moding the F1?
Ive got a chilton's, but I'm looking to add some performane as well.

It's got sprockets already.

more power is just a question of more money.

racing carbs - $800

cylinder boring - $60

port and polish - $100

valve job - $120

rings and pistons - $500 (rough estimate)

replacement clutch pack and heavier springs - $200

high flow air filters - $130

jet kit - $50

complete aftermarket exhaust - i dunno, maybe $200

high performace coil packs - $130

nitrous - $hell if i know

turbo - $good luck

racing fuel - $6/gal?


you will have to look real hard to find tuning or mod guides for the f1 since it came before the internet. more than likely the guides are written in a notebook sitting in some dark dusty file cabinet in some raceshop or garage.

Michigan where are you getting these prices from??
If these are real please post where I can find a port and polish for $100 !!!
That would be well worth trailoring the bike up from Illinois in December

LOL, I'm also curious about the prices. What exhaust that is a full system are you getting for $2bills? Rings and pistons may be $500, but lets not forget the labor involved to change that shit. THAT is the expensive part. You will be WAY better off monitarily to buy a newer/bigger bike before doing all these mods. Even when you're done, you'll still have an F1. No way around that.
Filter, jet kit, and exhaust would be my first choice after sprockets and some track days. Improve your riding, there is no better way to make your bike faster than to make YOU faster on it.

once in a blue moon there is an exhaust or two that run for 2 bills or less. i never said it was going to be new.

some prices are just for parts. so assembly and installation are not included. maybe you are handy with tools, save yourself the labor costs.

port and polish is a DIY kit, motorcycle specific, has all the tootsie rolls and polishers needed for intake and exhaust.

the other prices for head and cylinder work are what i remember the shop charges, minimum.

all these prices are what i have written in my notes, not necessarily all from the internet. and quite honestly, many could be out of date being a few years old.

and point taken that when all is said and done, it is still an F1. but for someone who really wants to do it, it will be a fast(er) f1. but i agree that there are more economical solutions and the best of those is better riding skills, hands down.

Try like 6.89 a gallon here but you can get it right at the pump.
SOOOO worth it even with an $18.00 fill up, it's cheaper and funner than a car.

I thought of doing the same thing you are. I thought about upgrading and doing all that, but then I rethought. After I take things apart I will find something else to do which only grows into a bigger job. Then you have alot more money into it then it is worth. I think saving that money and upgrading to a newer bike is the best way to go. IMO

+1 here. I do love my baby, and she will always be around. However I want something I dont want to worry about on a long weekend ride.

If anything the weak link I have found in the few months on my F1 is the skinny rear tire..... I've heard ( probably somewhere on these boards) of someone swapping out for a different swingarm and tire.... but at that point is it even worth it?

I'm doing the sprocket and paint this winter.... and I talked to someone at racing 905 about a legit cage so I can stop showing off my crappy welding job... but other than that
+1 Telgren ... it's still an f1 and it'd be easier and cheaper to get something newer

Well I picked up some F3 parts . . . love craig's list.

anyways, I'm thinking of modding the F3 lowing fairings to fit and possibly the swing arm as well, gotta find a rim and tire still.

I've also got coil packs, triple tree, windshield, clutch cover and axles all from an F3 if anyone is interested.

I made some frame sliders for the frame and bar ends at work, I'm just looking for advice on what else I should do while she's under the knife for winter time.
It's already got sprokets, you think a port and polish would be benifical as well? she does have just over 21K miles.

If you go the port and polish let me know how you like it.... I can't decide if it would be worth it so it would be nice to know how it actually works out....
I think my next big job will be shaving those front turn signals, fiberglassing them smooth, and bolting on some flushmounts...
This looks like an easy job and fiberglassing kits with all the cloth and resin you need are $10 at wal-mart...

she's already got a Yoshi can, but I don't think it's a full exhaust system.

i talked to the guy with the V&H on ebay and he sent me more pics as well as updated them on ebay, but the can does not have a tip on it.  i think it just open and exposing the baffle, but he has not given me a picture of the end, only from the side.  just thought i would let you guys know incase you were interested in it.  i am no longer wanting it now.
