I have an 02 with split seat - as I take the missus to work each day I need a grabrail to stop her struggling during acceleration/hard braking. I see the single seat bikes have one fitted. Anyone got recommendations as the HK bike shops believe that I cant get one. Tried the Honda website and a few UK ones and cant seem to find aftermarket ones either....

Well believe it or not.....people with the (big) single seat want the split seat setup
So.....if you were willing to give up your split seats to get a grab rail & one big comfy seat.....you could actually make some money by trading your whole rear section with someone that wants to do that conversion.
The subframe, seats, pegs, tail fairing & everything will swap right over to each bike. So......just post up that you wanna trade & people will be flocking to you with offers.
That's one option anyways.
As for a grab rail for the 2001-2003's.....never seen one & it would look really outta place on those years if you ask me

Ill trade, but you will get some flames off my rear section lol

I really like the look of the split and theres no chance of me swopping

She will just have to hold on then....lol
I have to agree with snobrdrdan - it would look out of place - - well at least I can say I tried.....
SchiraF4I - I like her to hold on but sometimes shes a bit loose (confident pillion) and I catch her out ....

Give her a tap on the hands when you want to accelerate kinda faster than normal..

Corbin has a rear seat with a backrest. That may help.

+1. i believe fish found your best solution if she was feeling "uncomfortable" or unsafe. i bed she'd feel 10X safer with a backrest than just a grab bar

a 12 o'clock bar works wonders for the girls to grab onto

Grab rails suck. Just have her hold you around the waiste. It's safest and what I was taught on my riding course.

My professional opinion is to teach her how to ride. When accelerating, have her hold on to you, and when braking or slowing down have her place her hands on the gas tank to support herself. When you slow down, don't down shift, put it in neutral or hold in the clutch and come to a roll. Its much easier for her to ride. A good rider is just as important as a good driver.

i would also recommend the corbin seat with the backrest... gonna cost you lotsa $$$ since the rear seat alone is $200 + shipping... not sure how much the backrest is though but the good thing is you can take it off and on whenever you like.
It'll look REALLY REALLY REALLY weird though on an f4i. Gonna look like a sportbike/harley. lol.

my missus does hold on and use the tank when needed - I always ride easy but sometimes cars pull out and I have to brake hard - I do the tap for 'Im opening it up' technique and it generally works well - thanks for advice but I think I wont bother with the back rest - lol - harley honda- never....

- I think the 'get her a bike' is the best option.... now wheres my wallet....

Save your money & just do the hand tap & teach her instead

+2 for you. Other then experience; education is the next best thing!
Side Note: Also, it's sexy seeing a girl ride a bike...but that is me :)

Yeah I do the hand tap. Any passenger I've had it always feels like they're gonna fall or something when I'm accelerating hard.. BUT.. they always say they feel perfect safe
