When I change gears from first to second, it likes to get stuck in neutral. Am I doing something wrong, or is the bike messed? Help!

mine will do that occasionally, just on first shift you gotta slam it. I notice it gets stuck in neutral at stoplights sometimes too

One excellent technique I learned from reading Total Control is to "pre load" the sifter when shifting into higher gears. This means apply pressure up on the shifter before applying the clutch or in the case of speed shifting before reducing throttle just enough to reduce the torque being applied to the engine. When you use the clutch lever to shift try not to reduce the throttle less then 25% of pre shift throttle position. It is said this technique will smooth out your shifting. When I do it I only have to pull the clutch lever in what seems to be about a 1/4 inch and my shifts are silky smooth.
By the book Total Control and you will learn so much. It is amazing how much is involved to become a good sport bike/sport tour rider.

My gears occasionally get stuck when stopping at a red lgiht as well. If it's stuck in neutral let off the clutch completely. Then pull it back in and it will pop into first. If it gets stuck in second... slowly let the clutch out... just as it is disengaging you'll hear the gear pop out... pull the clutch back in immediately and shit down... all set.

I had the same problem... I was told it's the gear box that honda makes. I took it to the shop and they checked it out and it was jsut fine. Riptor's solutions works great and is the same solution I found. HOWEVER if you down shift before you stop the bike completely it helps eliminates the problem. Also make sure you are completely pushing/pressing the shifter all the way. IF you half do it, it has a tendenacy to get "stuck".

You can also adjust the shift lever ( foot lever) try lowering it or maybe raising it..but I suspect that the lever light be set to high making it difficult to get the "throw" needed to get it in the next gear...
When you are stopped it is not uncommon for the bike to load up the tranny when it is running, so either rock the bike back and forth gently or release the clutch lever and try again
