i love insurance companies!! the highest i was quoted was $3,000 a year from state farm..the cheapest was 2,800 from geico..looks like im going to have to go with liability insurance only again..as that will still cost me $78.00 a month..looks like it may be time for the bike to go..they raised me since last year..and i havent gotten any tickets lately..but my 2 careless driving tickets raise it about 40 bucks a month..so its my fault..but i got them when i was like 15..thats crap.

That's crazy, but i'm 30 and still pay $550.00 a year for full coverage for my 2000 F4 from Progressive and I have a clean record.

That sucks, sometimes the cost isn't worth it. Do you atleast have health insurance?

If ran an insurance company..I would struggle even insuring these things. Too many young guys crashing these days. Hopefully the accident rate goes down and we all enjoy lower rates someday
How does this vid make it worse? Everyone keeps bashing these guys but I didn't see any accidents or police anywhere near them. To me these guys looked like they knew how to ride bikes and its the newbies that have the wrecks that make insurance go up.

Wow, that vid was crazy on the highway! Yeah, insurance is a joke for me, just at liability I'd pay for both my bikes in about 2 years

With insurance quotes like that I would sell that thing in a minute. But these are the lessons we learn when we are teenagers. Things are worse now then when I was your age, but the lessons learned were still the same.
Here is some advice from an old guy that was once a young guy. Take the $78/month and invest it, if you don't have any mutual funds already. Put it in a fund that allows small incremental investments on a regular basis, this allows dollar cost averaging. Get an S&P fund and then an international fund and split the money. I did $210/month for 15 years and in the end I had $130,000+, that allowed me to buy my house without a mortgage. If you don't know how that feels it is like the best blowj*b you have ever gotten and it lasts a very long time. Trust me, you can always spend your money, but you have only once chance to save it.

I'm going to go ahead and threadjack, but I think its worth noting here. Fishfryer, that is amazing. I can only aspire to have such financial prowess as to be able to buy a house without a mortgage. As it stands I'll be graduating from college soon and am completely debt free while having a vehicle with around 30,000 miles on it and my 94 cbr. At this point I pay into a Roth IRA, which I will be able to use some of for a down payment on a house without penalty. Maybe that would be a good investment idea for schmidt? I'm not familiar with S&P funds and international funds.
and to bring things back on topic. I'll be 22 this week and I have been researching insurance costs. For me, with the cheapest level of liability and a $500 deductible comp and collision, Foremost Insurance quoted me ~$275 and outfits like Progressive and Geico around $325. But I have a clean record (one speeding ticket over 3 years ago).
If I were you Schmidt I'd hang it up until those tickets come off your record and/or you turn 21(I think I remember that you're younger than me) thats when my rates dropped quite a bit. Sucks but thats life. It's a total downer but there's several better uses for that much money that you may need a lot worse for in the not too distant future. Good luck.

Okay, who rides without insurance?
I don't...
-Don't live in a big city
-bikes aren't worth compensation
-cost of liability insurance is worth valuse of bikes in 2 years
So go ahead and blast away
No joke ( for above replies)
I have full coverage and will always have full coverage. Too many people like to sue you for everything and milk the system for pain and suffering for a scratch.

I believe that's what you meant to say.
I'm just going to say 2 things.... I hope you have medical insurance...and part of the responsibility with riding is being able to afford Liability at minimum.

Hey Martin_D,

I saw that vid yesterday. Those guys, no matter how 'good' they are or think they are, will be a statistic shortly. You think b/c Rossi or Hayden can ride it prevents a car from switching lanes in front of them without them being able to react? At those speeds it only takes .00001 of a second.
I'm 22, full coverage with a $500 deductible through American Modern and pay $331/yr. That covers $1000 gear, $3000 accessories, uninsured motorists, bodily injury, the works. I've had a few accidents and two tickets, but I took DD and my accidents were over 3 years ago. My premium dropped from $447/yr to $331/yr when I renewed.

Wow!?!.... If you see nothing wrong with that video, when they go down...and they
Will, you can let them file an insurance claim with your company.

Not trying to get in a pissen match here. But that vid has nothing to do with our rates. I don't ride like that and didn't say it was cool and Ok. They do look a little more experinced then the average rider. I know anything can happen but we have all seen the vids of stupid wrecks caused from inexperinced riders and that is what causes the higher rates. Don't quote me(Im going off of memory) but the average miles on a crashed bike (insurance claim)was less then 1200. This is the majority of all claims but not all claims..
Now accidents happen look at all the members on here that have gone down recently. Foxy had a Pizza guy pull out in front of him and it was total loss (insurance goes up) dwschultsy low sided into a guard rail and from the pics Total loss (insurance goes up agian) 118367s has had two people clip him 1 week apart and cause damage to his bike (do I need to say it) and there is another guy that I almost forgot about, It was crashkahnman he went into a corner to low and ended up in the ditch (let me guess what happens to our insurance rates). Don't take the short versions of the accidents as a "knock" not intended and it sucks that you guys went down and Im glad your all OK

No pissing match here... don't need to pee

...lol
You are correct about the accidents raising our rates and newbies hoping on the road wrecking. But riding like they do in the video... even if they were Rossi himself or a better then average rider, they could not avoid a driver on their cellphone at those speeds in that much traffic who might chagne lanes on them. They will go down eventually riding like that and cause our rates to raise. Thats all.
Sorry to hear about your rates J.

well i called again today and somhow got the rate down to $61.00 a month..so i went ahead and bought it..cant go a summer without riding.
although, i did find out today that my shoulder does infact have a laborum tear and will require surgery in about 6 weeks...so im going to see how long thats going to keep me out for..but im 17, i bounce back very fast.ill be out for a week im guessing.

If you haven't already take an experienced rider course. It cost about $100 depending on what state your in and it counts as a defensive driving course. That will drop your rate lower and I dont know how other states work but here in NJ taking that course drops 2 points off your driving record. Not to mention it will make you a safer rider. And it only takes one day. Its definitly worth taking. And some places even offer it for free

I do have medical and I don't believe in paying $1200 a year for liability on my F3 only, that's not including my F4i or XT225.
I have gone down and it was just a matter of time, but since it was in the country and no cops were called, no insurance was claimed and my medical covered my "ATV accident"
I'm gonna have to look into that Donohu40, if my rate wasn't so crazy I'd be okay with having coverage.
