This saturday I am going to an auction to maybe buy my first bike. All they have listed is the VIN, and that its a 2001 CBR 600. What are the chances this is a F4i or an F4? What are the major differences between a 01 F4i and F4 other then the fuel injection? Is there anyway to decipher what kind it is with the VIN? They also have an 02 R6 with 24000 miles and a 04 GSXR with 9000 miles. Ive always liked the Honda so I was going to go with that, but I just realized they made the F4 until 2002 and I was banking on it was going to be a F4i. Which is slower, more reliable and will hold value better, the 02 R6 or a 01 F4?

Most likely it is a f4i (which is fuel injected). You will be able to tell right away whether or not it has carbs by lookin. The f4i doesn't have a choke. Beyond the engine performance, I don't really know the physical differences.

FI and cosmetic changes are the only difference. F4 will have a single headlight, F4i will have dbl headlights, a 02 should have a split seat tail. A F4 should have a nana seat unless changed out, same goes for the upper fairing. The VIN should tell if its a F4 or F4i by the year model indicator in it. 99 - 00 for the F4 and 01 - 06 for the F4i.

Got it figured out guys! I was just confused because on the F4 subforum it says until 2002, but thats not true for the USA, which they stopped selling the F4 in 2000. Thanks!
