I was inspired by thridgen's post to finally throw a few pictures of my recent trip on here.
Went from Northwest WA to central CA to visit family. Two travel days going down and just one long day headed home to get back to my girlfriend--I won't lie--that was the motivation.
Rode 750 miles the first day, 450 the second, did a few day trips and then the big 1060 mile, one-day ride home...total riding distance of about 2500 miles in 9 days.
Highlights:
Crescent City, CA
Kings Canyon National Park @ Grant Grove (Central CA Sierra Nevadas):
Cedar Grove (In the bottom of Kings Canyon):
Back out of the canyon--About 100 miles round-trip of nothing but Canyon Highway with very little traffic.

awesome pictures. I dream of the day that I am able to do that kind of trip, although, I think it is going to be on a touring bike.

And the iron ass award goes to.....(opens envelope)........jj. Wow 1060 in a day! Incredible. My longest single ride was just over 5hrs. and my ass was sore. I can't imagine. The girlfriend was your motivation huh. Your a lucky man. These days all I get after a long ride is a "Where the hell have you been" hahahaha j/k. Nice pics and congrats on a good road trip.

I'm not sure what the issue is with my server... seems to be hit and miss.
Anyway, yeah, the views were amazing. It's a place I used to go to a lot when I was in high school and college and has a lot of good memories for me. Long before I had the motorcycle I used to dream about what those roads would be like on one. It was great to have the chance to ride them--and it was more than I had hoped for! The highway is essentially about 40 miles of twisty goodness that just dead ends. This eliminates the majority of traffic and since it was the middle of the week, I basically was on my own!
As for the long ride, yeah, it was 1060 miles in about 17 hours. I've done the same route in a car many times, so I was mentally prepared... physically, however, it took its toll. Totally worth it, though! I just couldn't see the point in stopping and setting up camp when in a few more hours I could just crawl into bed with my girlfriend who I hadn't seen in a week and a half! -- anyone in my position would have done the same thing!
vpsophmore-- I really like that picture too-- thanks!
