I am only providing this information for people to make legitimate and legal copies of their own personal DVD collection It sucks when you go to watch a favorite DVD and it no longer plays. I like to backup my favorite DVD's using FREE software...
There are several methods for ripping your DVDs on your Windows computer, but my favorite is DVD Rip
[download here] which is used in conjunction with DVD Shrink
[download here]. This will compress the size of the DVD (usually ~4GB) and store it on your computer. You can choose to record the files uncompressed if you like.
DVD43 will decrypt (unlock) a movie DVD so that your copy program can read it
[download here] To watch any of these movies, I like to used DVD Play
[download here]. NOTE- you need a vlc player to run this program, but a link will be provided when you run DVD Play for the first time. Also, a small glitch- you need to save an albulm art photo in the movies folder before the shortcut to that movie will work.
here is a link to a video about this software:
click here And finally, should your original DVD become ruined, here is a free program to burn another DVD

I've been ripping for quite a few years now...I too use DVDShrink and/or DVD FabDecrypter, then Nero to burn...

I use Handbrake to convert my DVD's to .m4p for my iPod touch. I've used Mac the Ripper to copy DVD's onto the hardrive so I could stream it to my Apple TV.

I only use DVD Shrink, I rip them to an uncopressed ISO then use Daemon Tools to mount that ISO and play the movie in Media Player Classic. Trying to muster up the skrilla to build me a media center pc to hook up to me HD so I don't ever have to burn them, compression sucks!
