So, I hit a huge rock coming off the freeway today while going about 50. There was sand everywhere so I was being wary of the road directly in front of me and not too far ahead. I look up and there's a rock about the size of half a basketball in the middle of the road. In the time it took me to pull the clutch in to brake I had already hit it. Both wheels hit the rock and the whole bike did a "bunnyhop" and jerked to the side. Somehow I managed not to wreck, but now I have a ****ed up front rim.
Do I buy a used rim off eBay, or send it out and have it straightened?
There are two dents in the lip, is it possible they were done at the same time, or was the smaller one there before, ya think?
Anyone in the Tallahassee area that might be able to help me with rim/tire removal? I just moved into a new house and am strapped for cash right now. I don't have a set of stands yet...

Probably happened at the same time. Nothing a ballpeen hammer wont fix. LOL. I'm sure it could be fixed if you can find a good machine shop in your area.

I would buy a new one, just to be on the safe side. Then sell the bent one on ebay, other people may want it. I had a dent in my rim when I bought it (I didnt see it until after I bought it) and I was in an accident with my bike shortly after I bought it and i told the insurance company it happened in my accident so they replaced it then I sold the other one on ebay for $95. Just to be safe, I would replace it. My .02 cents

You can get it fixed for much cheaper than buying a used wheel on Ebay (which you'll never know if its truly straight or not until you actually receive it):

So you still use that same rim that you had straightened? Still totally fine? How fast have you had it and how hard have you ridden on it? Thanks for that link :)

Any idea on what happened to that link?
I recently had the same problem with my 1994 Honda CBR 600 F2. I think the dent in the rim is causing air to leak out slowly from the front tire, which is why I have to check tire pressure and fill with air everytime I ride. I have found some used F2 rims on the web and can get it for $75 plus shipping (COD) and then pay about $100 in labor to have it replaced.
Is this a good idea or is using a hammer still the consensus?
