you almost have to remove a fairing but its pretty easy to,
but dont replace the oil filter with stock, replace it with a K&N
it has a nut on the end which solves the problem, you can just tighten
and then loosen it with a socket.

Get the filter wrench that fits over the end of it like a cap. It's got all the flat sides on it and it's made to fit that filter perfectly. I got mine at Mungenast Honda on Lindbergh for like $12

+1 on k&n been using them for over 2 years
i got a wrench used for changing car oil it comes from the side and looks like a claw can find it at your local auto shop, i use that to get the old filter off and put on a K&N filter on and after that just wait for the next person with a non K&N filter

If you are still trying to get it off, drain the oil, cover the headers with foil, stick a screw driver through the filter if you cant find a wrench. I would just do that so you dont have to buy a tool you arent going to use anymore if you replace it with a K&N

Like someone said before, use this cap wrench. No hitting the headers since you're going in from behind the front tire. It attaches to your standard ratchet...

stick a screw driver through the end of it and give it a twist, works everytime.
