Okay I'm going to try to explain this the best I can. I got gas and went to start the bike and turned the key and nothing I mean nothing happened. When I turned the key off the RPM needle ran through the RPM's like when you turn the key on. The lights didn't turn on the fuel pump didn't turn on the gauges didn't turn on. I was lucky and had a trailer and my dad came a picked me up. Anyways, I have checked all the fuses and none of them are blown. I put a charger on the battery and now when I turn the key it is making a click noise that seems to be coming from the rear turn signal boxes. It goes click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click, click and after about 10-15 seconds the fuel pump will kick on but is very faint. I push the start button and it makes a sound like the battery is dead. Could it be the alternator or starter?

i believe that would be a bad battery
the fuel pump sounds faint because its not getting enough juice to pump gas and I think its clicking because the starter doesn't have enough juice to crank the bike
this happened to me a couple months ago, I'm too tired to actually think about it much but I seem to remember thats when I borrowed the battery from my RR and that fixed it

I just bought a new battery about 2 months ago. Do you think the alternator could be bad or just a bad battery?

It's possible your stator is starting to go and not charging the battery properly. Definately a battery/stator problem though.

I'd bet a pitcher of beer, when you throw some jumper cables on it today it starts right up.

Try it and let us know.

you'll want to do a charge dianosis...because it could be your rectifier...it converts power generated from the alternator to do DC (or is it AC..i keep confusing myself) to charge the battery. if it's not working then battery will not charge.

It was just the battery. I got a new battery and it fired up like a champ. Thanks everyone for the input.

yo...if you have any issues with the alternator or the rectifier, a new battery will start the bike, but in a few weeks, all juice from the battery will be gone and you'll be stuck again.

take the time to check that your regulator and stator are working properly. it's fairly simple to do. just need a multimeter.

I think I'll do that to be sure. The thing is I bought a battery off ebay and it wasn't the Yuasa battery that is recommened so it may have been a bad battery or just a piece of crap, but I will check the regulator and strator so I won't get stuck again.

....and NEVER jump your bike with a car. The electical system wasn't designed for that much current.

Yeah I know, my brother tried to do that with his bike and fried his electrical system. He isn't the brightest of our bunch.
