went to take my bike out for the first time this spring. put a new battery in and filled it up with gas. went to start the bike, but it will not turn over, it will just crank and crank with nothing happening. anyone give any advise to help remedy this situation? anything would be helpful.

the bike is not turning over, plugs or gas would have no effect on that
is the bike just making clicking sounds when u trying to start it?
Maybe the batt u put in is toast, get a multimeter and check

i dont think it is the battery, the lights, tach, and display all work, and the fuel pump turns on when i turn the switch to on. my thinking is that i am not getting fuel. is it possible that the fuel filter is clogged from sitting the past couple months? if thats so, can someone tell me where the fuel filter is located, and if they think that draining the fuel tank and putting in new gas would be a good idea.

You said it cranks and cranks, but won't turn over.  crank=turn  over. That makes no sense.  If it does nothing, check your kill switch.  It may be turned on.  Not implying you didn't already check it, but I had a friend that kept hitting my kill switch on my 88 CBR1000f, so I got him back when I was in his garage and the bike wouldn't crank at all.  He almost went and bought a new battery, hehe.  Moral of the story is, he stopped doing that to me, and when he flipped the kill switch back, it started right up.  He had the 2002 F4i I now own.

BTW Fuel filter is in the tank.  Did you plug the ECM connector(s) back in?

same thing happened to me! if your fuel pump is priming you might want to check your tip sensor. they don't like to sit all winter tiped over on the kick stand. don't know why. hope that helps

if the fuel filter is in the tank, how would i go about getting to it if it needs to be unclogged? where is this tip sensor that you speak of?

dude is the bike turning over? All those things will have no effect on the bike it still should turn over just not start. and if it is cranking over but not starting i can assure u its ur plugs like it was mentioned above

Your battery can still have some juice to have the display work but not have enough to crank the battery.

check the voltage of the battery. is your horn loud and your high beams bright? if not its the battery...i had the same problem. gotta keep that battery on a tender!

Mine is doing the same thing.... battery is fully charged, start/ kill switch to run, you can hear fuel injection prime... press the ignition button and starter keeps cranking but engine doesn't completely turn over.  I went down on the bike a few weeks ago (did a high side on the right - fractured my right wrist in a few places and have a titanium plate and several screws in it now) and I think that may have something to do with it.  I think my tip sensor might be a little off from the drop.  I started her up a couple of weeks ago (at least once a week) to make sure the engine stays in good running, but the other day it started for a bit, stalled, then didn't run ever since.  I'm gonna check the fuel lines/ filter and plugs... she only has about 10,000 miles on total.

voltage on the battery is good, checked it yesterday. horn is loud and high beams are high. in the process of taking the fairings off the bike to get to the plugs so i can check that. talking to the dealership where i bought the bike, they are under the impression that the plugs are fouled and they need to be replaced.

+1. It's not the kill switch. If the FI primes, then the kill switch is fine. If you cycle the kill switch, that'll reset the bank angle sensor. If a bike sits for too long, the plugs can get fouled.

make sure you do the routine stuff too. Check the fuses. i don't think the bike will start if the fuse to the radiator fan is blown. I know it will with the headlight fuse and some others. Are both your turn signals activated when you turn the key? If so that's another reason why the bike won't start and that's an easy fix i can talk you thru.

will look the the fuses tomorrow to see if those are all still good. i dont think the turn signals are activated when i turn the key, but will check that also tomorrow. my question tonight tho is how the hell do you get the igniton coils off the tops og the spark plugs. in the owners manual it says to unplug to the ignition coil and then to remove the ignition coil. i tried a couple times to remove them, but had no luck. what is the easiest way to get those things off? also, in the manual, it says to remove the plugs with a wrench from the tool kit. i bought the bike used, and there was no tool kit that came with it. what would be the best way to remove the plugs after i remove the coils?

you should have the spark plug head. it's longer and it does lift the sparkplug when you turn the wrench...

if the starter is not cranking , you have a problem with the battery , the starter or the engine internals.
if it cranks and tries to, but not fires up, it's your spark plugs or fuel injectors.. the fuel deteriorates during long cold stays so it can clog the injectors afterwards. try to start with throttle fully open.
that's what i think.

wanted to thank everyone for thier help. got the bike started today. ended up being the spark plugs were fouled up and needed to be replaced. pain in the ass to get to all the plugs. ended up having to take off the fairings, gas tank, and air box to be able to get to all of the ignition coils and plugs. 1 and 4 came off without much problems, but 2 and 3 would not come off, the ignition coils kept hitting the air box and wouldnt come off. good tho, learned alot about how the bike is put together.

Congrats, those plugs can go bad if you don't winterize.
