Bikes and stoplights

I don''t know what has been going on lately, but I have been getting stuck at so many stoplights when I am up to the line on my bike and the light refuses to turn. I wait about 3 cycles then run the red light, meanwhile all the people behind me are honking at me.
How do some of you deal with this? Is there a way to make the light turn, or should I just run the red light sooner?
p.s. It could be this screwed up state of SC, I swear I must be the only biker here wearing a helmet, and most of the time I am on the freeway.

Dont know how SC does it but most have large magnets, and your bike isnt metal. In WI if it fails to change we can just go when clear

Yeah, I am not sure what the laws are here since I moved recently, but I have an F3 and it has quite a bit of metal.

You can buy a "turn signal changer" from a lot of motorcycle stores. That or I pull up as far as I can past the spot (within safe limits) and wave the people behind me to pull up.

Go to
http://www.greenlightstuff.com/ I just bought the high powered one for both my bike and my wifes bike, and they work perfectly. Haven''t got stuck at a light that wouldn''t change yet.

that is interesting, I haven''t heard of that one before. Does it have to be wired?

Nope it''s just a magnent, so it shouldn''t fail over time.

We have sensor strips in the road, not always easy to find though, every now & then have jump up & down on the bike to "Click" the sensor.

Well I''m lucky and don''t have to travel on too many sensor signal. Most of the ones around here are timed, which can be a pain in the ass because I have one that stays green, cars or no cars, for about 40-60 secs on the opposite side I travel home from work.

+1 on that. When I was in Ga, I did the same thing. Here in Hawaii, it hasnt been an issue. I think these lights are timed.

im at the max amount of points on my liscense so my next ticket gets my license revoked for a year, so when i come on a light that wont change i make a right, then a u turn then another right back at the light, here in az alot of intersections are set up to take your pic if you run a red light, which includs turn signals, 3 of the top 4 cities with the most red light runners per year are in AZ so they have no tollerence for doing it even if it wouldnt change for you

The only steel under my bike is the cat/exhuast pipes. I got stuck in my old storage unit place. Dam underground magnet gate openers.

I''ll usually pull up and if I''m not behind a car and I notice it''s not going to change, I''ll usually just run the light if there is absolutely no one around. If there is some traffic, I''ll usually turn right and make a u-turn and be on my way.

I have to pay attention more to see how many trip sensors are here. It might be worth looking into for only $15-25.

Ha well I got a funny story on this subject. Alright so I guess stupidity got the best of me one night on my way home. Ok so I was getting off of the exit ramp on the highway. I see a cop is helping someone in the other lane behind me with something, who knows what. Well I am sitting here at this light and five mins go by, and im think WTF is this ever gonna change. The cop is still standing there helping them and ten mins go by. Well i say f it and just go, I mean what is the cop gonna do jump in his car and run me down cause he saw me sit there for ten minutes. So i am on my way and about half a mile down the road there is a police roadblock. Go figure its a DUI check point and you guessed it they stopped me and asked what I was doing running red lights and I explained my situation.

I run them when the road is clear. Otherwise, I just sit and enjoy the time until some car pulls up.

Eh they were not to happy and they called up the officer who saw me. He met up with us and asked when my last ticket was. I havent ever had a ticket in my life so i guess that helped. He then proceded to tell me that I just wasnt on the sensor cause when he pulled up it turned to green right away. lol
