Do you guys wear any type of body armor when you ride? I have a Joe Rocket riding jacket with built in body armor, I always wears jeans and steel toed boots, and riding gloves. And always wearing my Scorpio Helmet. I have seen photos of many who ride in Tshirts and shorts with sandals. What do you do?

Full face helmet, armored motorcycle-leather jacket, armored gloves, jeans and over-the-ankle hiking boots.
Will change last 2 to armored pants/ racing boots at earliest.
I had a minor fall (complete with a little sliding action on ashphalt) and the ONLY injury was on legs (knees) which was the ONLY unprotected part. Jacket, helmet, gloves and hiking boots all prevented injury - each had minor scratches.
A small note here: motorcycle grade leather lasts for 80+ feet on the ashphalt - jeans last probably less than 1 foot - even kevlar wears through in 25!!! If not for this reason I would never have bought leather.
Our MSF instructor talked about 'no exposed skin, now I know why.

Shoei RF-1000 helmet w/Respro Foggy
Dainese Zen Jacket - full armor
Dainese back protector
Dainese Gloves (gauntlet with carbon nuckles etc.)
Dainese Leather riding pants on weekends armored
Alpinestars textile over pants with armor commuting to work
Dainese boots weekdays
Alpinestars SMX-R full boots weekends
Underarmour lowers and uppers
MotoGP 1-piece for trackdays
Always, without fail. Jeans are not good enough, my skin is worth the couple thousand dollars I have invested. I'm not saying anyone needs to gear up, that's your choice but in over 20 years on 2 wheels I've learned a lot.

I ALWAYS wore:
Shoei RF-1000
Joe Rocket textile OR Joe Rocket leather jacket (both w/ armor)
Joe Rocket textile OR Joe Rocket leather track pants (both w/ armor)
Joe Rocket leather gloves
Icon field armor spine protector
Diadora race boots
At any given time I was sporting $1500 worth of protective gear...and I'm still around after my crash, good as new.

I'm somewhat of a squid on the street lol
well not really but I definitely don't have the street gear that I would like to have
currently I've got a crappy Icon Ti-max mesh jacket that I've had for a few years and doesn't fit me right anymore
I do wear my Sidi Vertigo Race boots and Scorpion helmet, gloves depend on what I've got near me and how far I'm going, either my cheap A*s, or my GP Techs or Pros
and with all that I usually just wear regular jeans lol, stupid I know but I probably ride 20 miles per month on the street at best and after spending well over $4,000 on all my track gear (1 set of Spidi and 1 set of Komodo leathers, 1 AGV and 2 Scorpion helmets, extra visors, GP-Tech and GP-Pro gloves, 2 pair of Sidi Vertigo race boots, back protectors, knee sliders, a large pile of under armour, etc)
again I don't suggest anybody wear regular jeans to ride in but I'm way to f'in broke to buy new street gear as little as I street ride

Since I just got into the motorcycle scene, i've been buying all my protective gear over the last few months. I use to just ride around with a helmet, leather gloves and a sweater, but now I've bought
- New Icon Helmet
- New Shift & Joe Rocket gloves ( built in Armor )
- New Alpine Stars & Joe Rocket Rackets
- New Shift riding Jeans
I'm still just wearing sneekers on my feet but am looking at diferent riding shoes to buy.
In my experience in buying all my new gear I learned a valuable lesson, don't do it over the internet. Why?, because the stuff you buy never fits. Size large from one company it totally different from another.

I am guilty of t-shirt riding with shorts and sneakers, it gets f***ing hot here in florida. Always a helmet though.
It is funny, I have 'crashed' (very low speed altercation with gravel) and was thankful I was fully armored. My crash was on one of those 'cloverleaf outings' and I knew I was going to push a little because I was riding with the local maniacs.
My advice is, wear as much protection as feasible, adjust your type of riding when you aren't wearing full gear, pray for cooler weather so you can wear your gear.

I agree about the florida heat. I don't like to ride without any gear, so I just about put the bike away for the summer. Which unfortunately is at least 6 months out of the year.

Like I said earlier, it's up to the rider to determine the amount of gear they wear but my advice is to dress for the crash, not the weather. You can't control that grandma driving the big car that's gonna try to take you out, hot or not.

I'd feel better if I could also adjust the cagers' type of driving. In the meantime:
Daytona boots
FirstGear overpants
Motophoria leather or FirstGear mesh jacket (and I'm a little nervous about the mesh - I want to get perforated leather for hot weather)
Motophoria gloves
AGV full face helmet

To all the people complaining about the heat, there are a few things you can do to mitigate the weather. You can get a mesh jacket. Although not as protective as leather, it will help keep your skin on. If a mesh jacket isn't an option, then try a perferated leather jacket. Don't buy all black gear. If you are trying to stay cool, it doesn't make sense to rock black gear. Step up to a better helmet. The top end helmets are usually designed for racing, which means they are light and have excellent air flow. They will be louder than a cheaper helmet, but since 60% of your blood travels through your head, keeping it cool will help with the rest of the body.

Arai Helmet, Icon Timax Jacket, Icon body armor, Icon Ballistic jeans, MotoGP gloves, and Gaerin Boots. I don't care how hot it is, my skin and well being is way more important than sweating a little.
