I am guilty of t-shirt riding with shorts and sneakers, it gets f***ing hot here in florida. Always a helmet though.
It is funny, I have 'crashed' (very low speed altercation with gravel) and was thankful I was fully armored. My crash was on one of those 'cloverleaf outings' and I knew I was going to push a little because I was riding with the local maniacs.
My advice is, wear as much protection as feasible, adjust your type of riding when you aren't wearing full gear, pray for cooler weather so you can wear your gear.

I can't believe how many more people I see riding in sneakers than boots. Almost any type of crash will hurt your feet and ankles with skateboard shoes, and if there's any amount of speed involved they're gonna come off your feet completely.
I try not to be a gear nazi, but after you use it a couple good times and feel it work in a crash it's hard not to. I live in Texas and sweat my ass off all summer, but I know from experience how stupid it feels to crash and hurt yourself while not wearing gear and your jacket is sitting at home.

Scorpion Rivet, Joe Rocket Mesh Jacket or Shift Leather Jacket, Shift Gloves (want to buy some new ones), jeans and steel toes. I always ride with gear. It gets hot here in Oklahoma in the summer, but I'd rather be sweaty than bloody.

Heres a little reminder I carry around to ALWAYS wear boots ! Something punctured my ankle (not sure what) and they had to cut it open to sew up the "bag" surrounding the joint. Luckily there was no infection, cuz I could have lost the foot. I was told that your body doesn't let antibiotics into the bag around the joint. Not sure if thats true or not, but the poss of losing my foot scared that sht out of me anyway !!

wow...looks like you could use a little loofa'ing' on the sides of your foot.
antibiotics is in the blood mang...so anything that's in the body cavity and 'open' (not filled with blood) the meds can't get to...sort of like if you spleen ruptures...they have to clean you up and keep you open so the stuff can drain out...cause puss will just sit there and get nastier...and cause infection.

Its good to see the experienced riders wear the proper gear. I see people riding here in my town with nothing but the standard helmet and a tshirt and sneakers. It makes me laugh at them, and it also makes me feel sorry for them when they hit the pavement with no protective gear.

Helmet, obviously. Alpinestars Gore-Tex boots. I have several jackets: a Fieldsheer mesh and Icon Timax mesh (pretty hot here in middle Georgia) and a Tourmaster Jett for the cold. All of them with good armor. Several pairs of gloves: Joe Rocket cold weather gloves, Tourmaster and Icon mesh, again all armored. Looking around right now for some pants. Love jeans like everyone else, but slowly realizing it's a bit silly to leave your knees unprotected. And I've been riding 40 years! (My only injuries have been a fractured fibula from hitting a (very surprised) deer and a bruised shoulder from a parking lot drop.

Im gonna take some lessens from you guys. Last year I lost control of my bike and slammed into a parked truck. All i was wearing was jeans, t-shirt, sneakers and a cheap ass helmet. When i got up i somehow had no shoes on and my helmet was probably 40 feet away and i had some pretty good road rash.. This year im gonna listen to you guys and always wear my jacket and finally buy a good helmet. It was a bad lessen but i think that i learned from that experience.

I always wear my gear, HJC CL-SP, icon leather jacket, icon mesh jacket, alpine star gloves, and usually boots. I've been guilty of wearing running shoes. Its hard to find good/comfortable riding boots in a size 14/15.
