Hey Axsys,
Good eye man. I had no idea about that. Not too sure of this pipe will fit or not. Definately looks like it will touch the fairing. As it is, with the 04-06 fairing, it's a tight squeeze. As for making the can longer and the pipe shorter, this is as short I can get with the mid pipe. Its basically just a bend at this point. I could make the can slightly longer but without much midpipe, it's just going to be loud no matter how much can I put on there. Haha. I'm going to put in a torque cone though. It should make it quieter and give the bike more backpressure.

Yo JDub,
I'll be taking this to my mfg on Monday to get a torque cone put in. If all goes well, I'll try and get a few pounded out. This uses the same bend as the other mid-pipe so it should be easy.

haha yea, when making a motogp-style exhaust for our bikes, its gonna be loud no matter what. suzuki and yamaha have a pretty complex system in order to get their motogps to be as quiet as they are. and +1 on the torque cone, i was gonna mention that to see if you had one or not. it probably wouldnt fit on my bike from the looks of it though, which sucks because it looks pretty sweet.i might design my own motogp with the extra exhaust i have layin around somewhere, but if that goes downhill, im goin with a bootleg___pipe___

Would adding the cone make a difference on idle sound? When it was reved it sounded normal, But when it was at idle, it was sounding kind of rough.

I'm with Glocker... it sounds kind of odd at idle, but that thing will SCREAM.

Hey Guys,
It at my manufacturer right now. I'm waiting for them to finish the first article. I'll check with them later this week and see how its coming. We are going to go with a smaller diameter mid-pipe (if you wanna call it that. Ha) to provide back pressure. We'll test this and see how it goes. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again.

hey you didn't leave any room for when the suspension unloads!

The suspension had no load on it. It was at high as its gonna get. My bikes suspension doesnt sink on its own. It barely does when I sit on it.

well as soon as you get them done i want one i have an 02 f4i and if i need to cut the fairing i have a second set so i dont mind
because this is a sick exhaust

the swing arm doesnt hit the exhaust?
Tahoe SC
8/23/2007 7:21:49 AM
yo...i said unload not load...the swinger unloads when you do a stoppie, when you crest a big hill, etc. it will hit the bottom of the swinger.

Hey Tahoe,
Exactly, there is no way the exhaust is going to hit the swingarm. As it sits, the swingarm/bike/suspension is completely unloaded. I can lift the back of my bike and the wheel will come off the ground and the swingarm still doesnt hit the pipe. Unless the suspension stretches somehow? I dunno. Let me know what you think, I dont wanna miss something....

when sitting, the weight of the bike itself loads the suspension a little bit
So yeah tahoe is right, there should be some clearance below the swingarm for those kind of situations
just to give you an idea, when your setting the sag on a bike the first thing you do is have a couple people lift up each end of the bike enough to let the suspension completely unload (not both ends at the same time obviously) to give you a bas measurement. Obviously if the bike was completely unloaded sitting, that wouldn't be necessary.

i left like 1/4" to 1/2" between midpipe and swinger to make sure it won't hit if it unloads as it was hitting before. the only way i was able to test this was to push down on the rear hard and let it bounce back up fast and see if it cleared. the older/softer the shock/spring, the higher the more it'll unload and then some. so it really depends on bike to bike.
just go and push really hard on the rear tail and see if it hits or not. i think for most it should be ok but for those whose suspension takes a beating, like at a track, it may hit depending on how much clearance there is.

I know what you guys are saying. My bike is pretty new and maybe my shock is on a stiff setting. I just lifted the bike and the swingarm didn't come any closer to the pipe than when its sitting. My brother verified too. But all this being said, I can and will make a little more clearance. What you see is only a prototype and I do appreciate all the feedback. This is the kind of thing I need to hear to make it right the first time. My first article is finished and will post pics later today.
