Hi all,
I'm needing new brakes soon.  (New lines have me brake happy)---(I just love getting to the stop line quicker than my friends and stopping with authority).  Anyways, I'm pretty much done witht the Honda brakes I put on last year.  I will be needing new pads soon, but the $90 pricetag (ouch).  anyone have any suggestions for new pads?

Local dealer sells EBC for $35 per set.  They say race or something like that, and their catalog lists only one part number for EBC F4i.  I'm not sure if these are the ones I should go with.  Should I look for another brand or get EBC online?  What to do, what to do?

even though ive never used them, ive heard that galfer makes some pretty good pads, along with stainless steel lines as well. you should check those out.

I've got Galfer lines.  Good product, had an issue with customer service.  They charged me for an in-warranty replacement.  I think they called it handling charge.  They also said they "waived" some other charge cause they didn't get the line out to me fast enough (Gee thanks).

thats wierd, i read about someone on here who bought some galfer lines on ebay and it didnt come with the hardware so they called up galfer and they sent him the hardware for free. i guess its just whether or not you get lucky. but unless someone convinces me otherwise, ill probably get galfer pads when i need to replace mine. oh, how much of a difference do your stainless lines make?

I'm MORE than happy with the lines.  Just felt a bit jerked around when I called customer service.  They got me all excited about replacing a line that I was expecting to pay for, then called me a couple days later and says, 'sorry we didn't send your lines yet, you owe us money.'

But I'm happy with the lines.

Sorry for the rant about Galfer customer service.  I'm still looking for brake pads.

I just put on new EBC pads on my fronts.  They are much better than the Honda ones that were on it.

Did it myself in 15 minutes...both calipers.  Do them yourself...SO much easier.

Of couse I'd never take my bike to someone else to do my brakes.  It would take more time getting the bike though writing up paperwork then just doing it myself.  Not to mention labor prices

I use Galfar pads on my Ninja 250. Apparantly they are suppose to have better performance when they are warm. I have never really noticed much of a difference. They fit fine and I haven't had a problem with them yet. I've had them on for about a month or 2.

How do you know when you need to get new pads and rotors? I'm fat (230lbs) and I've got 8500miles on my bike. Someone said my rotor might be warped because I'm getting some loud noise and shuttering in the brake lever every once in a while more so when I'm stopping slowly.

Not sure if your 250 uses a floting design or not, but generally you can check rotors on plate glass.

Tahoe those EBC HH pads, aren't those the ones that have high rotor wear? Pm me for a good place (website) to get them?

Not exactly sure what a floating design is, I used to know but forgot. Anyway, there is only 1 set of pistons. The pad that is near the pistons is stuck in a groove and a spring plate under it. The pad that is on the other side is on a set of sliders. As far rotors go, there are two things to check for. First you check to the thickness of the rotor, which is easily checked with a micrometer. The second thing to look for is warped rotors. A tell tale sign of warped rotors is if the bike shakes(at least thats what you check for in cars) when you brake at high speeds, 50+. Checking for pads is pretty easy, there might be a hole in teh caliper that you can look at the pads with. Also, you can take the caliper off and check the pads. You should be able to tell between the backing plate and friction material. When the friction material is thin, change the pads.
