Sorry for the newb Q but this is my first bike and we all gota start some where. I am in the process of buying a bike. I want to know if this is a good deal or not. I found a 03 600rr with 10k miles and a salvage title. It was stolen and recoverd after insurnce paid it off. The second owner got it with 2k miles and put 8k on. He is asking 5k for the bike, two jackets, and 3 helmits. Is this a good deal??
btw I also have a 02 R6 with 8200 miles for 4900 lined up. Which one you guys think?? Any info would be wicked big help, Thanks :)

wayy too much. I paid 5000 for mine with 4000 miles and a clean owner and that was in the summer... I'd give him 3 max cause it's a salvage title.. 4 maybe but thats pushin it. and the RR is superior bike to the 02 R6.

Trade in is 4200 and retail is 6000. We usually see them for around 4000 to 4500 on here. Tell us more about the gear.... 3 helmets and jackets may be worth some money.

Never buy a used helmet unless you really know the guy its coming from, who knows if its been dropped? It`s your head!

Good call on the helmet...........never buy a used helmet.....it just won't fit right....you get them way too small at first and they they fit your head

the jackets are icon one leather the other a spring one. I found some more deals but they are salvages as well.. Lots of stolen then recoverd bikes. The sellers say the plastics where taken and thats it. what are things to look for to see if a bike has a bent fork or frame. are the platics easy to take off?? If so would it be a good thing to have the seller take them off so i can get a look at the inside??

you can tell a lot about a bike just by looking at the bike with the plastics on, you can pretty much see enough from that... The only thing you won't be able to see is dents in some parts of the frame.
Things to look for:
Worn/ Bent sprockets... pretty easy to tell if you've ever owned a bike before
Fork oil leaking from the fork seals
dents/ long linear scratches anywhere indicate the bike being laid down
check the tire wear to see if there is an alignment issue... too much to one side or scuffing indicates a bent frame or misaligned part
roll the bike back and forth/ take for a test ride.
check the clutch play/ travel.
brakes (duh)
check how well the plastics align, the RR's have a pretty nice fit. so if they're out of line she's been F*D up.
if it's got the factory exhaust everything in the back should be perfectly straight (some aftermarkets come out crooked) so if it's not straight assume a bent rear subframe.

yea, $5k is seriously waaay tooo much.... lets say it's a bike taht has a clear title.... an 03 with 10k miles in great shape would prolly go for less than $5000. I got my 04 with 3700 miles, aftermarket pipe, blinkers, new tires, in perfect shape for $6k. Salvage title is a BIG deal because you REALLY dont' know what happened... you can guess, or take their word for it... but do you really know? And still, reselling a salvage title bike is difficult. If you pay more than $4000 you paid too much.

yah i'm startin to think that.. he is a broker for a insurence company and said he would do the bike, one jacket, one helmit, and my down payment for insurnce (170) for 5k. I got a quote for 1100 for insurnce from teh same company which is kinda of confusing how he can get it for less. Whats a good price to ask for??

I wouldnt offer him anything more than 3800$, you will never get your money back outta a salvaged title bike because its such a huge turn off to people to hear that. For 5,000$ you might as well keep your eye out for a bike in the paper or on ebay with less miles and a clean title. Plus its winter time and a lot of people are selling this time of year.

What year? If it is as clean as you say and never dropped then I think it is a good deal especially after you talk him down a couple hundred bucks since everything is negotiable.

Welcome to the forum blackbears.... That's a good price for a 03 RR. The F4's are a little cheaper.
