I have a buddy who lives in California. He has been looking for a bike for some time and has found a few that interest him. The thing is that the bikes he has found are in the surrounding states and would not be Cali legal. What would he have to do to make it pass so it would be legal? Is it as simple as throwing on an exhaust with a cat converter?

there's a 7500 mile requirement and some fees. no need to add cats, etc.

i just bought a bike from colorado here in california. When i had the dmv "inspection"  to get my cali plates they just make sure the VIN is legit, they check the odometer, and look for an emissions sticker, not a cali one but a general one. For my bike(01 cbr600f4i) the sticker was under the pass seat. For bikes you dont have to do the smog check either so ur friend should be set

Yep, as long as the bike has over 7.5k miles then your golden, Cali regestration will not be a problem!
