dWell besides being a cool idea IMO, it would be nice to know where everyone is at for meeting purposes and for finding riding buddies. I created this buddymap that anyone can log on and put themselves down on and it will mark you on the map.

I did put a place for your board nick and your bike (just for fun).

So add yourself and we can see where everyone is at!

Here's a link to the map...

Hey mods...how about sticky?? Also...if the mods want, there is code to add the map to the site...PM if you want.

I thought it was a good idea, give everyone a better understanding of the world & where we all fit in.

The frappr one sucked ass.  If this one will load for me..........I'll check it out.

yeah it's not superfast, but it is faster and a LOT less cluttered than the frappr map...it uses google maps...

There is something seriously slow on that page.  I have tried FF and IE as well as both on an outside network so it doesn't have to go through ISA, and its still taking forever.  About 5 minutes and I'm starting to see the loading page, lol.

yeah you know it's odd...i think it MIGHT have to do with the server load...specifically accessing that map maybe...because sometimes i hit and it's SUPER fast...others...i get the same thing...

i checked out a bunch of different maps and they all had certain issues...believe or not, this was the fastest...LOL....frappr just had so much extra junk it wasn't worth it....

really, we need to be able to just hit once to add yourself...then maybe every so often to check...luckily it's not something that needs to be accessed very frequently....

hopefully, everyone will take the few minutes and add themselves...there's already like 6 or so people on it...so it's beginning to take shape...i have to admit, i really like the way they display things though....once it's loaded

How do you add yourself?  Edit Map?  I don't want to click off the page, lol.

I found it!  Add yourself to the map! LOL,  Maybe putting white text on a light grey background wasn's such a good idea on their part....errr, nevermind, it just turned red.  Damn slow sites.

I like the interface though.  I am actually currently building something using the Google Maps API as well.  Neat stuff.

Good idea FF, now if I could ever get it to load ...

I doubt most people will wait this long for it to load, there's got to be a better one out there somewhere

yeah i know it's slow...believe me i looked around...not many good ones out there that are quick...primary reason is exactly what rrasco said...it's using an API to use google maps....none of these things use their own mapping software (and rightfully so)...but as a result...any number of things can cause the whole thing to slow down...

i did notice that google maps was a little slow today as well so it might be something on their end...dunno...hopefully it will speed up a bit tomorrow...but who knows...

IDK, I did spend a few hours on the dashboard using the webmaster tools, didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.  Google Maps seems to be working fine too.  Who knows, could be one out of a million things ATM.

The Frappr one is not that great but it does load reasonably fast (still a bit slow though) but it doesn't load the map part for me ("image unavailable"). I have no idea where it's posted on this forum (is it a sticky somewhere?) but I searched frappr and found the link ... looks like 2353 members have used it but I can't tell if it's still being used??

well the buddymapping is moving a lot faster right now....

my only concern with using an old map is that because it's old....it won't do us much good...it's good to have an active member one....

hmmm...that's gets me to thinking....

i bet if i would work on it, i could do an api to just map members from our database here....then dependent on there last post, show them or not...hmmmm...hmmmm...

any mods be willing to work with me on seomthing like that maybe? RRASCO!!!!

Umm, I don't mind, but I also have no access to any back end to this site, just a plain ol' mod here.  I just actually started looking into the google maps API to see what is possible; so I don't know exactly how it works, well I do, just not what can all be done yet.  I don't think anyone on this site actually has access, Patrick has a few people I don't know of that do the code changes.  So this may be pushing trying to obtain MySQL access.

hey BMG...you have to go to the site and add yourself there buddy!!!

also, i am going to try and see if i can add "places" so we can add things like "deal's gap" and "laguna Seca" to it...just for reference points....
