charging question for those of you with an 03 or a knowledge of the problem

ok when i go out to start the bike when its cold it cranks ......descent

when ive been riding for a while and go to crank the bike ......Im biting my nails and praying

oh ive had the battery maybe 4 months ....its the same $100 damn dollar battery that comes on the bike luckily with a years no question replacement

1)is this the 03 rectifier problem?
2)Explain the rectifier?
3)can I replace it with a 04-06 one to fix the problem?
4)or is it a heat shield/ battery thing?
5)is a battery tender the same thing as a trickle charger?

I too have this problem...sometimes when it's hot, it cranks REAL slow, and wont start...any help?

And what's this rectifier prob??

from what i understand the recitfier changes the AC current of the alternator into Dc current for the battery but i was wanting to make sure with the powers at be first

Yup, but the bike does not have an alternator (I could be wrong here) Anyone know of a good site to catch up on bike technology?

seeing as i am looking at the maintance manuel for the 03 that says ALTERNATOR CHARGING COIL.....i would think there is an...alternator

Yes, the bikes do have alternators, otherwise the battery would fall flat on its face within the first couple of hours of riding, due to our intensive headlights I think I remember hearing the alternator doesnt put out enough current to charge untill pretty high up in the rpm band, "I thinK". I dont get this problem with my bike, (03 RR) not sure what is going on but I hope someone can help you out does kinda sound like an alternator thing though

Since it only does it when hot I'm thinkin starter.
