Cheap '06 f4i, worth it?

I've been looking at getting a 2006 f4i, clean title, 1500 miles, that's been dumped for around 3grand. The guy says everything is straight, and there is minimal visual damage that i've seen based on the pics. Dent in the gas tank, and some scratches on the starter cover and the top of the left fork and clipon. No stock bodywork other than the tank, front fender, and seat. Should I go for it? Also, when I see the bike in person, what should I check for, other than cracks, bends, dents in the frame and suspension?

make sure the brake and the shifter move freely and dont grind/bump against anything. basically make sure they are straight still.

Alright, I'll check them out, thanks. The guy said he did a track day with it and got his race lisence, he just wants a bigger bike to race. Could just want to get rid of the f4i cause something might be tweaked, who knows, but he seems like a striaght up guy.

Depending on what you can do, you can spend $1500 real quick. Then you mentioned a track day. How rough has this bike been treated? I am not saying I wouldn't buy it, but how much would you spend for an undamaged bike? You will probably have $5000+ in this one, at least. By the time you get all the lighting, etc.

Well all i would need is a tail, upper and lowers, and a brake light. The upper is still there, but needs to be repaired. And pull the dent out of the tank. Headight, turnsignals, gauges, fairing stays, ect are all there and perfect. I figure I can shop around and find some decent prices on fairings, as I have done with my f3 project.

as long as everything structuraly is sound then id say its a good deal. check the forks, frame, rims, etc to see if they are bent, leaking or warped in any way

If it were me I wouldnt do it. I bought a mint F4i for a few hundred dollars more than that. It was a few years older, but not a scratch on it.
came with corbin seat, exhaust, power commander, blah blah.
You are going to dump way too much money on this, plus, will you ever have peace of mind that the bike true?

If this guy is sincere about it, he will let you take it to a Honda dealer and let them check it out.

I wouldn't do it...like krash said...spend a few more on an older model that you know is in better condition. That whole piece of mind thing makes one feel better.

ya'll seem to think that if he buys a different bike for a lil bit more he will get some sense of "peace of mind" can you really have a full sense of peace of mind when buying a used bke. even if it looks pristine it could just been repaired well . this 06 that the op might get is still low miles and clean title. if he throws on a new set of fairings he will have nice looking clean title bike that he could re sell for a much bigger profit. like i said before it really depends on the extent of any damage to the bike. if all it really needs is a new set of fairings then id say its a good deal. but some things are too good to be true. check the bike over meticulousy(sp?)

but it needs more than plastic... needs new tank, or atleast repaired, has a scratches in the fork and clip on,could be damage, could be not, needs stator cover, and this is only what can be seen from the pictures. plus the plastics, I would venture to bet he is going to spend $1k on plastics. and they OP is getting into racing, has he been raping that thing? probably
He may still come out ahead on paper, but, everytime hears a strange noise, or feels something funny when hard in a turn, there could be that haunting in the back of his head.
if that doesnt bother you, then go for it. but, that wouldnt be the deal for me

Well the plan is to throw some fairings on it and sell it for hopefully some profit. I talked to the guy, he said it was wheelied over and fell... yikes. Subframe got tweaked, tank dented, top of left fork scratched, although not bad. The top of the upper got cracked off, needed a new upper fairing stay. He says he raced it for one track day (120miles) and bought a GSXR750 b/c he didn't like racing in the 600 class. Said it tracked straight and cornered nicely, but who knows if he's telling the complete truth. I figure throw an '01-'03 subframe and split seat on it, paint it a solid color and throw a for sale sign on it. I'm thinking I should offer less than 3gs though after I think of possible tweaks in the frame or something, but it's got a clean title, bought from a dealership in this condition.

BTW, around how much would a dealer charge to check it over?

as long as the frame is straight, forks arent tweaked or leaking, rims are fine. if you are planning on doing a split seat you will have to replace the sub frame anyways correct ? sounds like a decent deal to me. fairings you can get for under 1k just have to kno where to look
