So i think my bike is screwey. It warms up fine and the temp rises to 230F before the fan kicks in. Last i remember the maximum tolerable temp. is 250 before the warning light kicks in. On old R6 (03) the temp was at 210F before the fan kicked in. Is it just me ? what kind of temps do you guys run?
should i invest in Royal Purple coolant? maybe a new thermostat?

take out the thermostat and run without it to see if the same thing happens. easiest way to know if that's not opening up.
i had pretty much the same issue but didn't hit 250. at lights, with the fan on it would just go up and up and up.
i checked EVERYTHING and changed EVERYTHING...and it turned out that the lines just needed some cleaning. i put some hardcore radiator flush stuff in there, drove it around and now it's ok...but will have to see what happens in traffic during hot days.
i just read an article that royal purple and bunch of other stuff is bs...from popular mechanics...
try using water and water wetter. it won't drop the running temp of the bike but it will help the water take away heat much better.

I have noticed with my bike in the summer, if I am at a light it will heat up quick to 230 before the fan kicks on. Is the same sensor used to turn on the fan as the display?

no, the sensor for the display sits on top of the block towards the back of the tank. the trigger for the fan sits in the radiator.
this is something to be aware of. when the fan kicks on and the guage reads 230, it's not 230 at the trigger sensor. it's probably closer to 222 or something. notice how some people say their fan kicks on at 222 and some at 225, etc.? well...my bike first started to kick on at like 224, now it's like 228 and higher. why? my guess is that my lines may have gunk built up over all these miles so now it takes longer for the water at the trigger to be the same for the water at the sensor...make sense? no? ok.

i thought you cant use royal purple on a CBR because of the fact that its one of those Gas saving oils that will wear out your clutch faster. i just might flush it and put in Royal purple coolant

as far as royal purple, it doesn't wear it out faster, it makes it slip.
