  • Brief Description of Accident: Gravel on 1/8-mile slow-down lane on the interstate. Front brakes locked, and front end gave out on the gravel. Bike slid for roughly 100 feet, rider (me) slid for rougly 60-70 feet. No major injuries, just some light rash around the knee. Bike has some light rash on the tail and mid-fairings that can be easily fixed.

    The semi on my right was actually stopped or maybe barely moving.  The right lane on this road tends to back up with semis waiting to go through Mexico customs on the way to the US.  Most of the time a few of the semi drivers grow impatient and take the left lane and then realize that they have to get back into the right lane before customs.  These guys just stop in the left lane until one of the drivers in the right lane lets them in. To avoid the long wait some of the cars and pickups that get stuck in the left lane try to squeeze through the parked trucks to get to the shoulder so they can turn around or simply drive on the shoulder.  Some of my coworkers have waited up to 45 minutes for the road to clear when the semi traffic is heavy.  I still lane split to avoid the wait, I just try to wait until everyone has stopped before I go through.
