I'm convinced I have horrid luck because in the last 7 months, now 3 sets of tires have to be replaced because of a
friggin nail in the rear tire.
That's 7 months...6 tires...since I change the fronts everytime I change the rears.
I am lucky in one respect.
I never did get a good feel for the Dunlop Qualifiers I have on now.
I'm thinking of trying the Michelin Pilots, but most likely would like Pirelli's if the local shop has them.
I need some 12/60/17 front....160/60/17 rear.
Any suggestions on models for the Pirelli's????
I spend time on this bike commuting as well as spring and summer track days
so I always look for something decently soft and grippy, but also one that won't wear out after 1.000 miles.
Thanks

I know it's not recommended, but I'd be patching that shit.

I'd be patching the tires with the nail hole and getting a dedicated set of rims and tires for track days. If you actually behave somewhat responsibly on the street you should never have a problem.
Also, WTF are you doing fronts at the same time? They wear a lot slower and yo may be able to get 50% or more wear from the front. If you buy the same tires over and over, I wouldn't worry about replacing at the same time, especially if you have that extra set for the track.

Since I was ina bit of a rush, I simply had the local shop install the only 160/60-17 Rear tire they had in stock.
Another Dunlop Qualifier on the rear, to match the barely used front.
All for the low low price of $176...tire, labor, out the door, and it was on the bike.
I barely slithered and slided with enough air staying in my tire to make the 3 miles to the shop.
The old tire ended up having:
1 nail...
3 holes unknown by what cause holes, one of which was letting out air faster than it could be put in.
I finally took some large screws, screwed them into the leaking holes...aired it up to 55 pounds,
and limped my way to the shop.
I was in no position to bargain and shop.
It only took them one hour.
I'm back on the road at least.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck.
This one guy that I used to ride with went through the same thing that you did., except his bad luck all happened within a month. One day he went out and bought a new R6. On the way home he got a nail in his rear tire. He always replaces the front/rear at the same time, so, he had 2 new tires thrown on. 3 days later, same thing, nail in the rear. 2 weeks after that, same thing. What is it with the rears? You'd think that the front would be the 1st one stuck.
