Couldnt you add resistors in order make the leds go in sequence kinda like the light bar on cop cars pointing in a direction?

Not exactly, but you could use a simple 555 timer to control them. With a little work, you could have them blink, but each blink would fire them in sequence from inside to outside for example.
That's a great idea actually I'm going to steal it from you :) The catch is you'll likely need to use larger more powerful LED's since only one will fire at a time, persistance of vision will help, but probably not enough. In that case you'll want to figure out how to cram some mega bright LEDs in there with a cluster of chips.
All LED's are not created equal. A single chip led has a very direct beam of light, think maglight focused spot whereas multichip 6 (160deg), 7(45deg) etc have a wider viewing angle. Of course, this also means that in direct light the single chip will be pretty clearly illuminated, whereas a 6 chip or lensed cluster might not be.
So what this means is... be careful of the LED's you find on ebay and such bragging about huge MCD (milicandella) ratings (sortof like candlepower ratings but not quite) because they are largely directional. What that means is that if someone is directly behind you, they're bright as hell. A little to the side and they won't see sh!t. :)

LevelTwo,
Once you had it all set up and were ready to run the wires where did you run them through to the rear connection? did you use any resistors?
thanks,
H

no, i didnt use any resistors, they still blink fast, but i have hotbodies up front that made them fast in the first place, so i dont really mind it...i think it makes you more visible the faster the pulse...anyway...about running the wires. I just wrapped electrical tape from the leds up about 6 inches so the wires are out of the weather....i ran each side up from the peg then onto each side of the undertray, then on back...feeding the wire through the sides of the tray so they are mostly out of the way

Awesome thanks!
Yea i'm fine with em blinking fast too I was just wondering how fast it actually was, thanks for the help.

So does anybody have any thoughts on this?
So I went ahead and installed the LED peg signals, everything turned out great however now no matter if the switch is on the left or right only the left peg flashes (it flashes on left even when the switch is on right) the wires are connected exactly as they were with the factory signals. Anybody have any thoughts? This is a 93 900RR

+1 on that, or so it seems.
I didn't encounter that problem at all on my bike. I am not sure if the wiring on the older bike has something to do with it... do you have schematics (wiring diagrams) for your bike?

Ok I put the LED's on my bike last night. I went ahead and painted the back pegs black as well. (The bike is soon to be painted black) sorry for the bad picture but the girlfriend has the good Digital Camera.

wich wires represent what on the back turn signals im trying to hook my led's up

Green wires from stock harness go with Black wires from the LED's on both sides. So just remember green to black and red to whatever else.

have you guys thought of using those LEDS from radioshack. The ones Im talking about have 3 wires. One neg, one pos for the red, one pos for the amber. This would work great for brakes and turnsignal augmentation!

orange and blue are positive current wires
green is negative, or ground wires

Again, this write-up looks awesome! Thanks so much for the walkthrough.
I've got a question though: Wouldn't it be kind of tough to fool around with the passenger foot pegs after it's been set up?
Here's why I ask: I'm sure I will inevitiably have to change my rear tire. I've got a hugger on the backside, and with my particular hugger, its absolutely necessary to take out the left passenger footpeg in order to remove the hugger. If the left passenger footpeg is a pain to remove or cannot be removed, I wouldn't be able to change my tire very easily.
So, for those of you that have done this mod, what does it look like when you unscrew your left passenger footpeg? Does it dangle? Is easily detachable? Is there enough space to take off the footpeg and have enough room to install a new tire without any extra trouble?
Speculations and facts welcome :)

use a molex plug (see: harness) so you can disconnect the peg when you need to remove it :)

That's an excellent idea! Did you just pick up a few molex extensions or splitters and use the wiring and plugs? Or was there some special way you did it?

superbrightleds.com has some of hte best leds around. I used them in my show truck, and when I get a bike I am going to use them again. You can get tri color leds, single color, different shapes and everything. They have brightness options and viewing angle options.
