By law they must be amber or red, I chose amber so they dont blend with my brake light.

Where did you guys get your LEDs? Do they come wired or do you have to do it yourself? Im looking for some amber colored ones.

I got mine from advanced, but I dont remember if they had amber. If not, you can order prewired one off ebay too. But the ones I got from advance already had starter wiring too.

I bought mine from Pep Boys, they have all kinds of colors and sorts thanks to the import tuner craze. They come pre-wired for quick installation and cost 4.99 for 3, not too shabby.

I got mine off ebay all ready prewired, they are clear but light up amber. 20 of them for $14. They came from hong kong but it only took 7 days to get.

hey triax how did you mount those ebay leds, do they have a retaining nut?

just a few dabs of super glue and they aren't going anywhere. I put some sealant behind them aswell to make sure its water proof than i head shrinked all the wires to clean it up.

So has anyone tried to do both brake and blinker leds yet?
I think next weekend im going to try to put 3 red brake leds on each side, and 3 blue blinker leds on each side.
Ill ask when I have more questions! lol

Blue is going to get you a ticket real quick

That would also be a alot of leds to put in one section. I'd also be worried that one color would be brighter than the other so your wouldn't really know whats supposed to be going on.

Yeah dont do blue, that is what i have on my bike right now -- my bike is currently blue and that is why i choose that color -- but im painting it black and red right now so im going to probably change to amber. I have not been pulled over just because of them, but i was told when i got pulled over for a C&I that i needed to remove them. Oh yeah im in MO

The amber is actually really bright. As I've said before I got the clear leds that shine an amber light. So you don't notice them at all until you but the turn signal on.

If you are looking for the brightest possible, you should look into the higher amperage LEDs. Most LEDs are 20mA, and about 3/4 of a lumen bright. For reference, your headlights are around 1100 lumens bright...
Here is a converter for you... Candella is a measurement based on the radiation angle, so smaller angled LEDs will seem brighter, but the total output is the same. One problem with most LEDs is that they are directional, so in a normal Bulb housing where a bulb emits light in every direction, the LED will just shine out like a dot.
http://led.linear1.org/lumen.wiz They make higher wattage LEDs, which you can run at 350ma which is roughly 17 regular LEDs...
http://ledsupply.com/ and
http://www.eled.com/ Are the two places I have gotten the high output LEDs.
At 350mA you get around 30 lumens, or 10,000 lumens at 120*. You can't just use a resistor or the LEDs will blow out, you need to use a current regulated device. Sounds harder than it is. You just need a LM317 chip and a resistor, and that's all of 2$ at radio shack.

that is pretty sweet dude good job
Has anyone tried wiring the leds as an extra brake light instead of turn signals(my brake lights on my undertail are pretty dim)? I have been trying to but for some reason the leds stay on all the time and just get a little bit brighter when the brake is pressed. I am trying for them to come on only when the brake is pressed. Is it even possible on my bike (2002 F4i) because it doesnt make sence that the brake wire from the bike is hot even when the brake is not pressed. Any help appreciated. Thanks

Your taillights stay on at all times thats why the leds are on aswell. Your best bet would be to find the wire that sends the signal that the brakes are on and tap into that. Good luck.
Okay...I just wanted to tie things up here. The problem that I was having had nothing to do with the bike's wiring, it was the leds in my undertail that was messing it up. The parking light wire and the brake wire on that particular leds were looped, so when one was hot, the other was also. Thanks

Can't wait to pull my bike out of storage to do this. I have been looking for a way to get rid of the turn signals on the back of my 600RR ever since I got it. I am sure I have to just do more investigation, but any ideas (other than and undertail) for mounting the plate???

Awesome write up, did it to my o6 cbr 600 rr. Also did a demon eyes project that I've been wanting to do and it only costed me $16.00 turned out really well. gonna do a write up on it soon.

those leds do have the built in resistor that you want on each led, you should have to take the rear cowling off, i didn't on my 929. As far as test pegs i wouldn't worry about it. Just take your time, measure twice and drill once. Start with a small drill bit and work your way up in size until the leds fit the hole snug.
