Ok, I am a little confused right now. Just got back from a local dealer who had a 04' 1krr for sale. Listed @$6799. Walked in with $6,500 cash and got rejected. WTF???
It was not on consignment.
Guess it was not meant to be, but damn I thought I had that in the bag.

Go back tomorrow and walk up with 6250 cash. Do that everyday and lower the price each time.

Yeah, come in with a wad of cash. It talks. And offer them 5.5k now.

Only go as high as 6k. If they don't bite, tell them to F*** off. It's getting to be spring so they have many a stupid kid coming in to buy it here soon.

I walked in with 65 100 dollar bills. I am still in shock they would not take. Oh well, they just lost a customer.

The low book NADA value is 5600.00. High book is 7400.00. They are obviously looking for what is called a 1 pounder. For every grand they can make on a bike or car they call them a pounder. 500 is half pounder. Just hold onto your cash. Look around a little more. Just because they rejected your cash doesn't really mean bashing should start. Maybe others are right. It could be that they gave a high trade for it and would lose. Or it could be that they just know someone else will pay that price for it. Either way your the smarter consumer.
When paying in cash I would buy private party. The dealer is bumping up the price to make profit so just cut them out of the picture and get a better deal.

You're in Seattle? That place must move some serious merchandise to be able to laugh $6500 cash out the door.
Go somewhere else. Go back to that place when you're ready to buy brand new. Something tells me they would eat off of your boots if you bought a new bike from them.
Seperate but semi-related note: When you buy a brand new Ducati you are assigned a mechanic and he is the only person to ever touch the inside of your bike. Nice huh? Could you imagine if Honda did that?!?!

yeah, that's kinda ridiculous, but at the same time i'm not really suprised. buying a bike isn't like buying a car in the fact that you can't really talk them down. i've heard that it's almost impossible to do sometimes... but then again, i've never bought from a dealer before.

They make their money on financing customers so cash is really not that big of a deal for most dealerships.

I'm sure they were asking $6750.00 plus tax title and doc fees. Do the math on that and it would be well over $7K out the door. I think your offer was fair and I would have done the same thing you did. I think they said no because spring is right around the corner and they know people are going to be buying bike like crazy in the next month or so.
I would keep an eye open for a better deal and not go to that dealer again.

why is the dealer an a$$hole because he wont come down on the price? the $6,799 they were asking is probably not including tax which in my state would be another $350 bucks. so you asked them do drop there price $650 bucks, (+/- 10%) and they said no and you pissed at them? you can be pissed that you didnt get the bike you wanted, but its not their requirement to come down on there price just because someone tells them to. we are heading into spring and someone will happily walk in and buy that for the asking price and they know it. plus crash is right, dealership prefer someone to finance there, because they get a small cut of the financing.

yeah.. go with a private seller.. dealerships make money selling financing, not cash deals usually.

+1, that's still crazy. I would have thought that was in the bag as well. Roll around to another dealership in town, or keep an eye on craigslist and the classifieds, something else will come up, and you've got cash in hand.

Buy from a private seller, esp since you have cash; dealers are always going to be more expensive.

LOL. I would love to, but trying to find a nine-five-four in good condition is hard. I am keeping my eyes open though.

Yeah I was looking at that one. Very nice bike, but from NY to Seattle would be difficult especially without being able to see it in person. Not that I wouldnt trust your judgement OKIE.

Huh? I was a mechanic at a Ducati dealership, and that wasn't the case... But the customer could request that a certain mechanic work on his bike alone, for any bike.

Really?
I know the guy, he's not a BS'er. He probably paid for it. Was the sickest bike I ever up close and never got a pic of it. Centrifugal clutch, carbon fiber everything, levers, rearsets, everything you could add for performance/style.

to make this on topic - have you decided on another bike yet? $6500 cash is serious buying power in the private market. I've been eyeballin' the ZX-10's recently...

They're crazy because someone may or may not buy it in the next week, or the next 3 months. Inventory sitting there isn't making them any money where that cash would be.
