I just bought a 2006 600rr and I live in an apartment and i was wondering if you guys and gals think its safe enough to leave out side over night with a disc lock with an alarm on it and it chained to the stairs. What do you think. So should I keep bringing it in at night

if they want it, they'll get it. but, they cannot want what they cannot see... if it's cool with your landlord (which i think it WONT be) bring it in.

definitely a deterrant for thieves but if they want it they will get it. i would keep bringing mine inside if i had the choice. when i move to florida in about a month i'll chain mine to the stairs in the breezeway since i can't bring it inside (live on the 2nd floor).

Right. I just figured that since the Disc Lock has an alarm on it, and i keep the bike covered at night, when they here the alarm go off, they might justlet it go. Becasue, once you shack the handlebars or touch the lock, the alarm goes off. Thanks

i live in an apt also. i have a thick ars chain and h/d master lock ran thru the frame/rear wheel going to my car wheel and its also got a black bike cover. but when i have my car, it just sits there locked under the cover. i was also thinking about the xena alarm. and in the winters, it comes inside next to my kitchen table. :)

I'd say just lock the bars and cover it, because a good organized bike theft group will just pull up in a van, toss your bike in the back (they don't care if they scratch it cause they're going to part it out), close the van doors with your alarm squawking away and be gone before any one thinks anything of it...

Also helps if your bike is parked where it can be seen, where there's lots of foot traffic.

My bike is parked by our lobby near the front doors and where the garbage bin is and where the mailman parks.

So far, three bikes have been stolen at our place but not mine.

p.s.

It's a 14-yr old f2

Well, where I would be chaining it would be outside my door. There are 2 apartments per building, so there isnt any major foot traffic anywhere. However, You can here the alarm when it goes off with 2 doors closed, in the bedroom, with the tv on, so if it starts to go off, it wakes people out of their sleep, atleast me.

In Hawaii the thieves seem to target cars and bikes that are parked out of sight.... that way they can operate unseen.

I live in Orlando, so EVERYTHING gets vandalized or broke into here, so nothing is safe!!!

can you park the bike inside the stall perpendicular to the car maybe?

put a u-lock through one of your car rims...if you have five-spoke alloys...and then attach a long, chain through the u-lock so you won't scratch your rims...and attach the other end of the chain around your bike rim or thru frame.
