So I love my 06 CBR1000RR but Ive been thinking that I want a 600RR. Is it even worth it? Is the weight difference and size really that much between the two now?  Its just been a thought so far. But the thought of a light, flickable bike seems appealing.  So what do you guys think?

The difference between my F4i and my buddies 051kRR is huge. His bike is like an all conquering freight train, mine feels like a BMX bike. I am not sure about the 6RR, which is probably better in every way (except ergos) than my bike, but I wouldn't trade, the huge depreciation you have on a 1-2 year old bike is enough to make rethink any kind of trade, up or down.

I've thought about it myself, perhaps for different reasons.  My 1KRR is a blast, but up here in Seattle area, no really good roads to tap into anywhere near the bikes potential.  When I lived in Tx, it was fun, nice 70mph open, wide sweeping roads, straights and twisties that were in good condition and rideable most year-round.  Up here, though, if it's not pissing down rain, theres sand all over the roads, and even during the nice summer months, theres still sand on allot of corners from the dirt-roads that empty out into the main road, and forget about blasting along stretches of open, isolated highway, unless your heading to spokane.   Heading over the pass during summer is awesome though.  For me it's not so much a 600 vs 1000 thing as it is a fun factor.  Most of the time I just poke along for safties sake and watch out for deer, wet corners and sand.   So when I'm feeling down about not being able to go out and rip my 1K, I think of what else I could ride that would be more fun for up here.  Sooooooooo Been thinking of a dual sport, wet, muddy, or rain, who cares, just a commuter I can steer off the pavement and onto the thousands of logging roads out in the forests, great commuter, great gas milage, practical lugage capability, super cheap insurance, and I been seeing them go for 2-3K around here.  Most of all FUN FUN FUN.  Comfy up-right position and super functional.  Looked at the Hondas$$$$$$$ and there isn't that much out there for them.  KTM's are $$$$$ also, but, don't flame me, the KLR's have a big following, scads of parts for them, the lowest retail, and everyone I talk to that has had them loves them.  Number one selling dual sport out there.  I think I'd have all my riding needs covered between a dual-sport and my 1Krr.  I am stationed in Washington State now, in a year I could be in Florida, Texas, San Diego, where-ever.  My sportbikes I have owned were great in Texas, but not up here, not as fun anyway, but I am missing out on more roads that are logging/dirt roads than I could possibly get on the pavment, unless I wanted to do laps around the county.  Sometimes the sportbike gets....not old, but restricted and bothersome up here.  Would be fun to just take a trail to god-knows where, build a fire and eat lunch, not see anyone else, no cagers or squids to be found, zero traffic and enjoy the scenery.

Shocktroop, I too am in Washington. And oh to the sand! Get any snow this morning? I take I-90 over to Blewit and down High-2 all the time.  But even on the passes its pretty much point and twist the wrist. And then you have to look over your shoulder to make sure there is not a plane above you .

Im not a big guy at all. 5-10, 160lbs. So I figured a 600 would fit me more like my dirt bike.  My 1K has started to feel bulky to me.

Love my 600. It's still way faster than most any car you'll run across, and they ARE lighter. Unless you're big on drag races (They'll still pull 11's stock) or top speed-forever runs (You'll still be able to knock 160+mps), a 600 will be more than enough to keep you riding in a "spirited" manner, but the extra flickability will come in as heeps of fun. Especially when going from something heavier to something smaller and lighter. I would say you won't be missing out if you did the switch... and I wouldn't call it a "downgrade", I'd call it getting another bike to accomplish similar, but different goals.

I guess it really depends on your riding style.  you want to hit the twisites hard, get the 07 600rr, its a bad machine.   you riding open highways, just cruising around town, get a 1k.

Yea, the snow is just starting to melt, just a slick slush right now.  I'm over in Bremerton, I say seattle cause I can see it from my living room and most folks don't knw where the hell Bremerton is.  Theres a great route down the 101 and up the 106, 150 miles or so with lunch in between, when it clears up you gotta come over, good fun ride.  Anyways, at your size, I would think a 600 would be perfect, for me it was a comfort issue, I am 6ft 195 or so, and just felt cramped on the 600, just my opinion of it though, more of a comfort thing for me.  Man, you get props for riding in that mess every day.  Folks up here are just plain stupid or got thier head up the ole rectum while driving.  I ride over to a buddies in Ballard often, and take the 5, can't count how many times I almost get turned into, run over or whatnot, and those were nice clear days.

Oh its sooooo bad!  Every time I throw my leg over I wonder who is gunning for me today.  Thats why I do the pass run so much. Less idiots by far.  Im down to head over there for a ride. Ive got no one to ride with around here.  All the cruiser riders at my work stopped riding when the Boss got into a wreck on a ride to Mexico.

sportbike guys seem more dedicated over on this side also.  Thes a harley/chopper shop around the corner, but it's mostly towards the old school crowd, allot of santa looking dudes riding these well-worn, no- chrome, white-walled harleys, and they're some cool dudes, always riding.

I have a 600 and I really can't imagine wanting a 1000. I think they are great of you're comfy on them, but for me, 600 will push my limits for years and years to come. I think a "downgrade" wouldn't be such a downgrade.

Okay... Okay... Downsize. Sheeesh! HAHA!  Its not about skill or limits really. Its just size. Im comfy on the bike and I love riding it. But it just feels bulky now.  And I just seem to be in the mood for a bike I can be more aggressive on.

Hell i have an old Carbed F4 and I love it.  A good 600 sport bike is all you need on the road.  my old bike will do more then I ever need it to do or the law will permit.
