So yesterday was a nice day and we were out on the lawn grilling out, having a good time with the friends. I hear this bike coming down the street so I turn to see what it was... couldn't believe my eyes. Some 21 - 25 year old in a Tee Shirt, Shorts, and Tennis Shoes riding this Brand New Ducati 1098. I can only hope he keeps that macine shiny side up!

We see alot of t-shirt sunglass flip-flop teenage riders her in Florida, usually on 600RRs or GSXRs so I know what you mean.
BUT
I'd rather see a noob on a 1098 without gear riding slowly than a fully geared up rider stunting/riding like a maniac on a public road. To me, squidliness is in the riding, not in the gear.

Like those clever Ameritrade commercials, it's important not to judge too quickly. I'm guilty of looking like a squid in my neighborhood, as I will do a test drive around the block after I've done work or to just warm the bike up real quick before a ride...I would never do this on a real ride, and I'm just giving Mr. Ducati the benefit of the doubt here...

when you spend that much on a bike, there's no money leftover for gear...

Little sh..t doesn't deserve a bike like that, if he doesn't have the sense to wear his gear (assuming he has some) Probably bankrupt him just replacing the fairings, unless he's a .com millionaire or something, or Dad bought it for him.
I have no problem with a test run to check work, done it myself, felt exposed as hell.Gee, I can't even ride without gloves and it feels strange...
Yes, I'm having a bit of a rant, but I've seen so many good men come and go, and none of them could ever afford a bike like that......makes me sick. Sorry for the rant, guys, it just hit a nerve........

I guess it's go big or go home for alot of new riders. Some people just don't understand the damger of riding without gear. I just hope he lucks out and does not wreck.

As long as he's got a helmet on and isn't riding like a douche he's not a squid in my book. And who even said thats his first motorcycle?

21 - 25 year old
25 years old is kinda old. I had a new Mustang GT and a 19 foot wellcraft Boat when I was 25. By 27 I had my first mortgage. To buy a $16,000 bike ain't that hard if you have a good job and a roommate to share housing costs.
But being 44 years old, I gotta tell you anything more agressive then the position I am on my F4i (with helibars) would be torture on my old decrepit neck and twisted back. Those bikes are for young guys (so is the RR and other race readys), and I am happy that they can be enjoyed by young guys. Some old farts like me that can afford them just can't enjoy them like they were designed. It is almost like seeing a 70 year old man in a Ferrari or a Porsche Turbo.
To me it is kinda like the 17 year old high school quarterback banging a 16 year old cheerleader, I can't do it, but that doesn't mean I can't be happy for him.

I do see your point Fish and maybe "squid" was not the right term. He was going roughly the posted speedlimit of 25mph, so his riding wasn't crazy. But like people are saying, if you buy at bike like that why not spend the extra 1k or so on gear??

Just because you're Rossi doesn't mean you can escape mother nature's animals and such.

words to live by
Damn laws...
It feels odd to me to not even have gloves on. Rode around the block without a helmet once and I think the kids on their bicycles were passing me. If I wanted someone to see me and my bike I'll head up to bike night, park it and very slowly get off so that everyone can see who it belongs to.
