So i kinda get the idea of "frame sliders" but can someone explain to me where they go? Also if they would be a good ?!mod!? for a first time rider. As you can probably assume im a newbi.. But everyone starts somewhere.
Dont flame me plz! Lol thanks in advance!

If you have a 600 F4i, or 600 RR, you will need to drill a whole
into your fairing because it will go somewhere on the middle.

I think frame sliders are the most important mod you can do on a
bike, because it protects your frame a lot. I also recommend getting
swing arm sliders that go on your swing arm. This will protect your swing
arm from getting wrecked badly. Bar end sliders are also important
because it would save your handle bars from getting all rashed up when you
fall.

Hope this helps somewhat!

After you drill the holes in your fairings, then frame sliders should be mounted directly onto your engine bolts.

Yes they are a good mod, especially for new riders.

I love it "when you fall" Ive riddin before in the past (5 years ago) and im hoping all of my falling is done with atleast for a while.

I have alot of learning to do on bikes i think.

how much do these items generally cost?
More importantly what are some good brands to look into? Links? Should I go all out or not? I have limited riding experience but decided to purchase new so i dont want to trash my investment.

thanks guys!

Also if you are so kind, do you know where i can read to learn the ins and outs of bikes/ parts etc. I may be new to the world of bikes but i have alot of experience working on cars and i have a pretty technical background.

Sliders are cheap under $50. There is an installation procedure on this forum that involves playdoh or putty that is very helpful. There is also another that uses a laser level that sounds good too. Do a search on it before you try and install them on your own.

i use vortex sliders and have crash tested them several times, they are awesome
any delrin sliders other than the no-cut ones will be fine (no cut sliders are crap, don't even go there)

I'm a new rider too and I decided I'm not going to put sliders on my '06 bike. I just hope I don't crash. It sounds like EVERYONE on this forum has crashed. lol Is that normal for everyone who owns a bike to crash it? hahahaha Maybe I'm just an overly careful person.

1st rule of riding... There is no IF you go down, there is only WHEN you go down.

Everyone goes down.

I haven't but I know I will. As for you being an overly careful person, it doesn't matter, because cagers are all too often OVERLY CARELESS.

It's the best investment you can make. I just put mine on the other day and it wasnt to hard using the putty method. came out perfect. only took about an hour too.

Put mine on a week or two ago, just took a couple hours(most of that spent being a puss about it not wanting to drill out the fairings but they came out nice, and hopefully I won't need to use them but if I do they're there...

As far as the swingarm sliders, is there a place on the 99 f4's for those to mount into or do you have to have tabs welded and tapped?

+1 on the "no cut sliders are crap, don't even go there" he is right
If I were you Lowcash I would put a crash cage with sliders, it'll protect your bike better than just sliders IMO
Also get someone to weld some sliders (spools) for your swing arm, there's a website that does that for you if you buy their spools I don't recall the name though

sliders are a good mod for new riders because, chances are you will drop it. they're there to protect your plastics and stuff like your bar ends. i dont have them on mine, IMO i think they're ugly.

hey guys im not dead (yet) thanks for the input. if you come up with the name of that company for the spools lemme know. In regards to the cage. i heard they are ugly as sin.. any pictures?

saw one on a R1 lastnight that looked fine, but I'm not sure what brand it was...

Anything looks better than cracked plastic right?

There are 3 posts here (at least) saying that NO-CUT sliders are crap, but absolutely NO explanation why. WHAT makes a no cut slider worse than the standard ones?

As far as I can tell, they just have a deeper "mounting peg" that goes to the base of one of the engine bolts, whereas the standards have a wide base section (and therefore require cutting of the fairing).

Can anyone explain exactly why no-cut frame sliders are inferior???
Thanks!

i have no cut sliders and when i went down it snapped the bolt and broke off and i was only going about 15 mph atleast it took the blunt of the fall and all i got were some scratches on my stator cover and fairing

no cuts will break off during any type of substantial impact with the ground...

if you are new to riding get them, they will save you a fortune if you go down, you can then concentrate on your line look where you are going and forget about how far your bike is leaning, get the sliders that require you to drill a hole in the side fairing as these are by far the stronger ones, remove the fairing put a dab of white paint on the bolt replace the fairing, push against bolt and there you have where to drill, drill a small hole first and widen with a cone drill or file checking all the time by replacing panel and making sure you are still ok, this is a bit scary drilling your bike but worth it get the sliders for the swingarm and forks too these are small cheap and very easy to fit but again will save you a fortune if you go down. happy riding

Sliders aren't just for newbies - I wear mine with pride.

If you are a newbie may I suggest adding magnesium tips to the sliders for an extra cool fireworks display... ;)

In this picture you can see the white sliders... likely vortex? You can also see the recovered engine cover... no plastic on the track it seems.

I personally think sliders are a waste of time.... Think of it like this.....you have to cut your plastics in order to install them, therefore, your plastics are already ruined. The sliders are usually cheaper than plastics but hey....look at accidents like opportunities to modify... Just my 2 cents....
