alright i am shopping for a 520 kit. -1 in the front and +2 in the rear and i would prefer vortex sprockets and then the chain.
im trying to find the best price out there. i found one kit on ebay for $185 + $17 s/h. i called a local shop and they are wanting $264.27 for it. i saw another guy posted he payed $299 for the kit and someone said he paid WAY over price. so i was wondering if anyone has any good links with good pricing or give me some idea as to what price i should be hunting for. just trying to find the best deal possible. any help is appreciated
thanks in advance

Dont bother getting a 520 kit just get the sprockets you want in the stock thickness. If you arent hard core racing that you are wasting your money.

Doesn't he need a new chain because the fact he is going -1 up front +2 in the rear?

$149.99 for the kit @ Sumofallpart.Net - Good people there and they will answer ALL your ?'s.
Yeah you could leave the stock chain but its going to ruin the new sprockets you invested into plus you'll have everything apart already. Might as well upgrade the whole system and not worry about it for 10K+ miles. I would get the whole kit. Agreed the DID is a great chain which I run on my other bike and never kinks, stretchs and always looks clean (for some reason). But also heard good things about RK-XSO.

i am upgrading the whole thing sprockets and chain because my chain is garbage now, it stretched out and is unsafe so my bike is in pieces currently. i am getting a 520 kit and doing body work and paint on the whole bike. already half way done with the body work and what not. i want to get the new sprockets and chain before the plastics are ready to go back on that way i can hop on and ride right away. thanks for the link streetdemon i will definetely check them out.

forget the 520, get a stock 525. call moto-heaven,
www.moto-heaven.com You'll talk to a dude, I think his names Phil. I forgot. I ordered a stock front and +10 rear and a brand new chain for 200 shipped to my door. He can get you any size you want.
I'd stick with the stock chain size. Those 520's just look too weak for me.
The only thing I don't like about the stuff I got (thrust company), is the rears are aluminum. If you don't need a big sprocket for stunting I would just stick with a stock setup.
And if you're dead set on the vortex 520 I think ebay has it for like 150-200

You can use the stock chain with those sprockets. I have the same ones on my bike and stock fits just fine. You can get a new chain but dont bother making it a 520, just use the 525.

that sumofallparts.net link has the vortex 520 kit with sprockets and xso chain for $136.49 shipped to your door. so i think i will go with that. although it is a toss up now.
has anyone heard anything about those stealth sprockets?
they look like they are really solid and it comes with the D.I.D. chain shipped to my door for $206
how do the stealth sprockets compare to the vortex sprockets?
i also need to know differences between the D.I.D. chain and the RK520XSO chain...?
thanks for your help everyone

sprocket is sprocket...unless you get no name ones...they are all the same...it's the chain that matters most!
i get all my chains from sprocketcenter...no brian won't remember me...because in the past 5 years i've gone like 4 times...cause them DID's last so long...if i had RK or some other crap then he'd remember me cause i'd always be there getting another chain!
if you're doing the -1 +2...like most say...stick with 525.

Haven't heard anything bad about RK. DID is a really good chain (12k miles and running strong).
Only input with the sprocket is regarding aluminum vs. steel. Aluminum is lighter but heard it wears quicker (depending on the rider I guess). I'd still get the Vortex 520 kit even with the Aluminum.

Just outta curiousity, why does it matter if he's only going down 1 up 2? I thought the 525 was all around better and stronger (just heavier) regardless of sprocket size.

yea you're right, 525 is a stronger chain...most people want to do the 520 conversion with sprocket change...then say...wow...i feel all this difference, etc...but what they actually feel is the -1 +2 and not the reduced weight of 520!!! but if for racing or track then 520 with gear swap...but gearing will depend on the track. so there's really no need for the 520 for the umph.

that's what I thought. I think it's a sales gimmick, they sell people saying it's lighter and you'll feel a difference with less drag and weight, but really, it's just cheaper to make, and they jack the price up! 525 all the way.

good price for the set...but rk is no comparison to a DID...i hope you didn't have the same issues i did with the RK.

what issues were those? if this chain doesnt work out (im sure it will work for a few years hopefully..) then i will buy a DID chain later.

Yeah how much life did you get from the RK? Was it a o-ring? Because I heard that kind is crap.
mitch Awsome

I just went from stock to a 520 with 1 down on the front.. and I have to say the bike hauls ass now a lot better on the highway but still not super buzzy.

it's the -1 you feel...
the RK stretched like a mother...after only 1K...that was enough for me.
