I am just curious as to what some of the opinions are about the neccessary seat experience/time you guys think a f4i rider should have before he attempts to move on to a 1000 or even a busa?

Obviously the liter bikes will be faster so what is some of the "must haves" for a rider to have coming from the f4i world to the liter bike world?

throttle control. a liter bike pulls the front tire from the pavement a lot eaiser than a 600.

on a side note how did you bring yourself to part with that syclone? i've rode in a (far from stock) ty and it didn't take long for me to fall in love with it.

If you've been riding for less than two years I don't recommend making this switch.

Bigger bikes mean more discretion with regards to all inputs..alot more discretion...throttle, brake, turn-in...everything.

"Smooth" is the name of the game.

My only advice is be very aware of what you're doing when it comes time to pick up the pace.

Big bikes will bite and when they do they usually bite hard.

Don't be afraid to be deliberate with your inputs, just make sure you are respecting what's beneath you at all times.

Ease into your new surroundings...don't be eager to push it right away or you'll get bit.

if you suck on one bike you'll suck on the other...

some guys just know how to ride and don't need anything bigger because straight away or top speed isn't their gig...

I don't know if experience is the right word, I'd say skill is a better word. I know I am not capable of outriding my bike, so I am definitely not a literbike candidate, I'd be just posing at this point.

It depends on the type of riding you do.  I know I will be on my 600 for awhile longer and am even considering moving to something smaller (new Kawi 250???).  Power tends to mask riding errors as it pertains to maintaining high corner speed.

anyway track time differences between say a 600rr and gsxr1k are of the order of 1-2 secs, so I wouldn't look at a 600-1k as a matter-of-time kind of 'upgrade'. unless you're into drag and burnouts and wheelies

Very very well said (or written!). My personal variant is: The F4i still makes me poop in my pants, so I don't even dream about 1K. lol.

If you like straightaways or the highway, the 'busa would be ok, other than that it is a pig in the corners or putzing around town on.  The 600 is great on twisty roads, but for long distance, lack of a fuel gauge and riding position get the best of you.  If you want to move up think about a VFR800 or a GSXR750 first.  Kind of transition your way up to the big bike.  I did it backwards and wish I hadn't.  Stay away from the 'busa unless you are gonna drag race or like throwing money at the gas pump.  Poor gas mileage and mediocre handling.  VERY HEAVY BIKE.

(Obviously I don't like the 'busa)

in 2004 I rode both the busa and ZX-12 back to back and like the handling of the 12 WAAAAY better.  The busa was more Cadillac-like.

I waited 5 years and 3 bikes before I just bought the 08 1000RR.

Just figured it was the right time and I got a good deal on it. But honestly I coulda stayed and road my F4i forever and been happy.. although the ne 1krr is awesome

Ya, I had it for 8 years and am a senior member on their boards.  I will have another, but needed to sell the one I had.  Their isn't much, including a bike that will hang with it 0-60 on the streets(unless a guy can launch a bike on the streets), but after than it is a turd...100-105 trap speeds ish...I mean its quick and mid-low 13's in a truck is not to bad.  In order to own one, you have to know what you are doing.  After market sucks.  It is rare and i'll own one again soon, but it was time for a new toy (the bike).  I'v ridden in 11 sec syty's and the 600 would leave them in the dust from a roll.  But if you can't get out of the hole quick, you'll be making up distance the entire quarter mile on them and likely won't catch them.  Fun as hell to have a fast truck...something most people don't have.  Only 2998 made...i had 1255 hence the screen name.

I have been riding for 4 years now. I went and looked at a RC51 a friend of mine is selling (for $7300 if anyone is interested) I am not ready for that thing it is a monster. I don't know if I will ever get a 1k. It really just comes down to penis size the bigger the bike the smaller the penis

Just think do you ride your 600 to 100% no i know i dont a 1k  is just for show not to many people are still alive and ride thier 600 to the max but if you if you want the more torque go a head 1krr is such a clean bike i will eventually get one not till my f4i is paid off though and i save ebough to buy it out right.

My 2 cents....I have an 03 954 and an 01 F4i (well that ones heres)...Anyways, the F4i lacks the power and top end (obviously). But turn for turn i can ride the F4i better than most people can ride their 1K's.......Given a good twisty road that lacks alot of str8 aways, yeah with the right rider the F4i can spank the hell out of a 1K....Now if theres plenty of straight aways, then the 1K is gonna walk off and leave and be halfway through the turn before the F4i even starts.......Fun factor, the F4i is 500X's more fun....Honestly, after she learns on the F4i. Imma give her the 954 and imma tke the F4i. Only because i know i can out ride most of the squids who think they have fast 1K's, LoL...=-)

had 2 f3's then got my 900, then got a 929rr, then got a f4i now back on a 929rr . all within 2 years. the 929 is by far the best bike i have ever owned. has the power, torque comfort everything i could want. i get power in the corners and on the straights. i can lean on it better then i could my f4i but im also a bigger dude (6"1 240 lbs. ) so the 929 is way more comfy then the f4i

it all depends on you and your comfort level.

Totally agree... 600 or 1000 is a preference, not a downgrade/upgrade... it all depends on how you like to ride. If you like torque, get a 1000, if you like the 1000rr look, get a 1000rr, if you like an aggressive, rpm-hungry bike, get the 600...

I do know that my new 1000RR is lighter then my 05 F4i and even just looking at them side by side the 1000RR is a much smaller bike and handels better... somehow? But I still love my F4i and plan on taking the 1k to the track

The F4i has soul, RR is a very fast, capable, sterile appliance.
