Ok not to sound ignorant, but what good do sliders reallt do? Are they really all that effective?

There first job is to stop your frame going down and takin a beating in a fall, they do also minimise to a certain extent the damage that occurs to your plastics too. Helping to reduce the expensive repair costs in the event of an accident. In my opinion worth there weight in gold.

Step 1--Take your bike and knock it over while it is standing still. Note the damage.
Step 2--Install frame sliders.
Step 3--Knock your bike over on the other side.
Step 4--Sigh with relief cause you just saved yourself an ass-load of money to repair side #2!!!!!!!!
Hope this helps!!

Exactly! I'm not worried about my bike going down while riding it. It’s those zero mile an hour crashed that concern me.

I have already installed my frame sliders. Do I need to remove one side to try this?

i would try it on both sides and take the average damage dollar amount.

Good Idea. If I could get the right one off then I would. I tried removing it the other day. Got the bolt out. Went to pull it out and no go. I don't know how I am going to get it out.

Don't really know what good those are compared to normal sliders. That spring prolly wouldnt help much considering that when you go down, that spring will compress, giving you less clearance than stationary sliders would. If the bike goes down, it will do the same amount of damage with either slider. I mean those sliders look cool and all and more "high-tech", but they would serve the same as others would.

I'm no engineer, well not yet, couple more years, but simple physics shows how those springs could absorb quite a bit of energy if designed right. You do have a good point on clearance though, but it would be my guess that you would still get less damage.

I put some vortex frame sliders on my bikewhen I got it. ANd I am glad I did. I dropped for the first time recently at a stop (me being a newbie forgot to put my feet down) and the only damage to the bike was a little scuff n the slider, and a small scuff on the muffler. So small that the average eye wouldnt catch it. They are well worth the money!

LOL I can honestly say that I have never forgotten to put my feet down while sitting still.

any good ideas where to get sliders? I was thinking to go without cutting the plastics and I have seen both options. What has everyone else gone with?

Frame sliders do what they were designed to do....let the bike slide with out damaging the engine. If the bike goes cartwheeling down the street it's open season on. Don't expect them to save anything going end over end.
