I've been looking around for gear. after being here only a few days i realize how important it really is. so do you all wear gear actually made for women or just wear the guy stuff in your size? i dont usually wear "girl" clothes. im a baggy jeans and t-shirt kind of girl. i was just wondering if there really is any benefit to wearing stuff made specifically for women. i figure if i can find a mens jacket that fits snug, im good to go. right?

My first jacket was a mens. My gear now is for women and I wear more of it. I have my jacket, gloves and knee/shin guards. I will not be stupid b/c I've already learned my lesson once. I was riding down the highway with my man and his brother. I was in the middle and this car came and but in between my man and I causing me to go down. I had just gotten the F4i (not even 500 miles) and I had on capris and sneakers. NEVER AGAIN!
GEAR NAZI AWAY!!!!!!!!!!

I too wear jeans and t-shirts, not much on the "girlie clothes." Nothing agaist them just not for me. I have a mens jacket, I wear jeans, and Dr. Martin boots. Mostly guy riders around here so the shops don't carry too much chick gear. I like to try my stuff on before I buy.
Pits..that really sucks, glad to see you're ok.

I wear an Aerostich, which is about the least sexy outfit out there....feel like a butch mechanic. Oh well! Have a set of leathers as well, wear them now and then, but have gotten used to and like all the armor on the 'stich.

If we're talking MC gear, I only wear "girl" gear. It's not just the sizing, but it's CUT differently than men's gear -- shorter through the arms, smller in the waist, with room for boobs and hips. Also, tends to be designed a bit better (not as bulky) for women.
I have:
Joe Rocket Phoenix 2.0 (mesh jacket)
Joe Rocket Trixie (leather jacket)
Joe Rocket Pheonix Gloves
Teknic Chicane Leather gloves
And SOON to add Power Trip Stiletto Jacket (mesh).
Even my helmet is "girlie" - Icon Alliance "Damnation."

well im definitely not blessed in the boobs department, or the hips rather either. when i actually wear girl shirts like dress shirts. i feel like im about ready to bust out of the shoulders...hmm maybe i just cant adjust well. i really need to try some stuff on though- cant wait till this weekend

i got to stop in a shop this weekend and actually try some gear on. couple things i realized:
1. i have a small head, but i did find a helmet that i liked on sale for $100, still looking though
2. i tried on a joe rocket textile jacket, hmm think ill be sticking with leather, wasnt impressed with the textile
so i did get a little accomplished on my trip. i tried on an icon jacket, not sure what what style exactly, but it was some thick leather and really comfy.

Don't have a set of leathers, afraid to spend the money on them. The guys I've seen wear them at the track look way too uncomfortable in them. Are they really?

I have a leather jacket for cooler weather, but I don't have a set of leathers per se. My thinking is this: unless I'm hitting the track, or doing some rrrrreeeeeallly agressive riding, full leahters are overkill. Yes, they'll protect you the best in the event of a crash, but unless you know you're going to be riding really hard/really fast all the time (or most of the time), I think it's excessive (and expensive) for the average rider for daily riding.

I think the leather/textile debate is pretty much a personal choice. I have a full set of leathers, but they're quite old and not armored at all, but I like the looks and "creakiness" of them, so wear them when the weather is right for them to be comfy (being told once "Nice vintage Langlitz" - which is a local maker - didn't thrill me tho, since I had it made for me in the 70's....!! <grin>). Otherwise, and for long trips, I wear my 'stich - it's more versatile over all, and has great armor.
Know folks who like the "draggin jeans", which have kevlar sewn into them in spots.

Yes, Chris swears by those Draggin' jeans, especially for daily commuting to work, etc... Sure, it's not QUITE as tough as leather, but it's not like he can roll into work in full leathers anyway!!

i'm debating whether to get a leather jacket or just stick with the jacket i have. its a light weight mesh with liner, and has the elbow and back pads in it. i am sure all those that have had some bad road rash would recommend the leathers, but its gotta be hotter than hell in the summer with the leathers. just looking for feedback on the issue. thanks-
full leathers are definately out of the question. i get the feeling it would be like wearing one of those plastic workout suits to lose weight. no thanks lol

Ok ladies. You're talking about helmets and jackets and gloves. What about boots. I need some insight on boots. I need a pair that will give me some height. I'm only about 5'0" and want as much height before buying a bike so I don't have to lower it that much. I have spotted a pair of Joe Rocket Orbit Boots but the website does not give much info. Does anyone have these? If so, how much height does it give you? How many inches are on the soles and the heel? If you don't have these boots give me some insight on the boots you may have.
Thanks a bunch.

get with pitsvtec on the boots. she got it going on about the boots.
i think the rocket dog boots are a favorite
there are always inquiries about boots with thick soles.

I hava a pair of these and love them:
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/item.aspx?style=10129&department=125&Division=1The inner sole is very thick, so I gain @ 2" when wearing them. I realize they don't look like "sport bike" boots, but they are VERY comfy and well made. I wear them to work a lot when I ride. I also have a pair of the Icon Super Duty Boots. They are very comfy as well, but I don't get as much height. Good luck!
