Ok, i know it's not the way to go.
But i'm gonna be having surgery and I would like to go work for my dad and make 18 bucks an hour and save it..instead of my dead end fast food 8 dollar an hour sh!t job.

basically, i was saposed to graduate a year early(this year) and today my teacher tells me i have missed 15 days..the second week of school was when i wrecked my bike and was hospitalized. she doesnt consider that an excused absence ...so, i think im going to get my GED, i relize i cant work for my dad forever, but..if i go with the GED can i still go to a tech school? and what does it look like on applications and all of that stuff?

i dont want to be told to not take the easy way out.. but i really have no choice right now..thanks for the help.

Dont get a GED you get screwed with scholarships from colleges. I say fight your teacher about the absences. Thats bs.

Sounds like it's time to go to the administration with it.

Setup a conference with the principle, teach, you, and your parents. Any medical excuse should be excused. She just can't say shes going to fail you because you have technically an excused absence.

I say stay in school. Yeah, you can make more money right now....but not going to school closes the door on so many other opportunities in the future. You can always make more money in the future. Don't be in such a rush. Live life a little while you can. Relish it now...cause wants you move on...it's gone.

and this folks is why you should not send your kids to private schools. I worked at the sholarship office at my college and we didn't give a rats ass if your kids went to Super Geniuses Only School or Ghetto High. If a kid got a 2.9GPA in the Super Genius School vs one who got a 3.0 at Ghetto High guess who gets a scholarship?

Do NOT go for your GED. Just graduate, you will appreciate it later down the road.

Will not look as good on your job apps later down the line. Say you and me are going for the same job, we both have equal experience and everything else. More than likely the deciding factor between who gets it will be the diploma, over the GED.

Once you have a college degree the difference between GED and Diploma is insignificant. This isn't 1950 where you only need a HS education. All you really need is a College Education and work experence. I wouldn't even list my HS Diploma in a resume

Around here there is also a HSED offered which if you have enough credits is better than the GED, its a high school equivilency diploma. I do not know how it effects college at all however. Just thought i would throw that out there.

I got my GED when I was 23.

I received a four year scholarship for my test scores.

I got my associates degree witht that scholarship, and I'm about 18 hours away from my BA in Criminal Justice.  Someone say something about scholarships?

I've debated commenting in here, but I may have something that can help...

In most cities, there is a version of Adult Basic Education (ABE).  These places allow you to attend, "class" at your own pace and GRADUATE with your ACTUAL class (since yours is a private school, there might be a difference there).

Even if you do just get the GED, it WILL NOT close your future doors.  I can personally attest to that.  Just thought you should know that.

Good luck.

P.S.  My degree is from a University, too.  Not some CC, buddy.

Ultimatly it depends on the colleges but someone with a Diploma would get a better scholarship than a person with a GED. With a Diploma comes a measureable GPA but a GED has no GPA(at least in Louisiana).

Well if we're talking complete truths - a friggin' diploma is hardly a ticket to college.  ACT's are your bet there, then when that score is sufficient, it's on to your transcripts.  At that point you can request a meeting with the Dean to explain any abnormal circumstances... like an adult does in life.

As far as a GPA, there is most definitely a measurable score.  It's not a GPA, it's a combined score of all tests administered in the testing process for the certificate.  Every state offers a calculable scoring system to comply with Federal regulations in respect to GED testing.

I can't say with certainty how it works in LA, but if they're on par with federal regulations you bet your scrawny arse it's something similar.

P.S.  As a graduate, I wouldn't expect you to know these laws in your state though, why would you?

I don't think it would be a terrible thing to get a GED - you should still be able to get into a decent college/university with a GED, assuming your ACT and SAT scores are high enough.  Be sure when you want to go to college to set up an on-site interview.  That's what got me into college, I got on the "accept this dude even though his grades aren't great" list by both people who interviewed me.

I later found out that a lot of schools have a similar policy where each campus interviewer (including students) can strongly recommend that a student gets accepted - I became friends with the student who interviewed me and found out she put me at the top of her list which included myself and 2 other people.

do us all a favor though and do not sit back and do nothing.  At the very least get your GED.

Personally, I would stick it out one more year and live it up in high school and get a degree but to each their own.

(playing devils advocate)

i say go ahead and get your GED and get some real world experience especially if it is working in a field you want to work in. nothing can beat real world experience. id much rather hire someone who has been doing the job for the past 4 years then someone who has been sitting in a class room.

i've known quite a few people who have gotten their GED and are making more then me. i also know people who have went to colleges (major universities) and obtained degrees and haven't done anything with them.

also do you even want to go to a major college ? maybe you are like those of us who never had the want to go to school. school isn't for some people , some would rather work full time and make money. $18 an h/r is good money @ any age. yea some individuals may have went to college and are making $ 30 h/r but then remember how much debt they are in for a long time down the road. so just decide what is best for you cause in the end thats all that really matters.

a HS diploma used to mean something , used to be a standard but look @ schools now adays

Dont get your GED, stay in school. Why not leave the private school and go to a public school? I dropped out at 17, when I was a junior. Such a mistake. I ended up going back to adult ed when I was 21 and working FT. So much easier to stay in school and get it done. Theres a LARGE differance in a Diploma and GED in my opinion. Also I wold have to say it looks better on any application.

Go directly to the school board.  The teacher isnt in charge of the school.

If that doesnt work then go to a news channel and see if they will do a story on you.     Put the pressure on the MAN.
