Well a little background here. I live in cincinnati and the weather this time of year is usually pretty crappy. I got close to 70 today so I decided to call up the buddies and take advantage of the beautiful day. So I go to my friends house to pick up my bike and ride it to my house to pick of my jacket. So were here enjoying the ride and just as were about to get off the exit we see a state highway patrol with his lights on and has no one pulled over. We thought nothing of this, so we get off the exit wait for the light to turn green, and then we hear it. Blip of the siren and lights flashing. Im sitting here like great what did we do. The cop gets out of his car passes my friends bike and tells him whats up. He comes to my bike looks at my back end and tire. I ask his sir is anything wrong? He tells me " No I was just looking and your tread looked a little low". Im thinking to myself you have got to be kidding me so I ask him again if anything is wrong and tells me no again and ask to see my license. I show him he checks it out and tells me to have  a good day and be safe.
Sorry for the long story, but I have never been pulled over for something so idiotic. I mean my tread is low!!! Its not even that low I still have plenty left. Have you guys ever been pulled over for something like this or dumber? Can he even pull me over for that? I guess he can do anything he wants but come on.

atleast he was lookin out for ur safety?..can u see tread being low at 70ish mph? maybe he was lookin for one of those off guarding hopeful attempts to catch ya w/o a license? idk we are basically powerless against their standard of operations. they can always say they were worried and pulled u over for ur own safety and u really cant argue that 1. sounds to me like u were the unfortunate victim of random hopefuls tickets. if ur ever pulled over/broke down a cop can pull up behind u and run ur license and plates and will rarely do anything to help, just delay u even more...imo honest opinion ur situation was total bs :)

That would be messed up if you did actually get a ticket. Sounds like he was just trying to bust your balls for something else.

maybe he was just looking to make sure your bike was YOUR bike . cops do this .. sports bikes are stolen so much and so fast . cops do that here in texas . they will pull you over for somthing really small .. there could have been a PBA out for someone that  was riding fast /running and you fit what they where looking for .. theres alot of reasons they can pull you over .. if you just do what they ask most the time they wont do anything . be happy hes doing his job . and you would not belive that amount of people that ride around with out having the edorsment for riding . it might be annoying but think of it this way .. had someone stolen your bike .. and he pulled the guy over ( and he was stupid enough to do so ) then you would have got your bike back ...

I agree with this. I don't mind them stopping me for a few minutes.

They better not put a PBA out when MY bike gets stolen. I'm going to ask for an APB though.

Im wasnt really mad at the situation, I guess it was more of the reason he gave me. I have plenty of tread on my tires and if that was the case he didnt need to see my license. I would have appreciated the truth and respected it much more. I have nothing against cops and the job they do. I understand there are some nice ones and some a holes. Oh well but you guys are right bikes are stolen alot so maybe that was it who knows

i had a buddy of mine get pulled over on the highway once. he was late for work and a cop pulled him over and made him take his brand new helmet off and put it on the ground. then he asked for his license and registration and what not and after a few minutes my buddy asked him why he pulled him over and the cop goes "i have the same bike i wanted to check out your exhaust." because of this, his helmet was scratched, and he was extra late to work

Yeah, he was looking to see if you have an endorsement, and I wish they would do that here. There are a lot of guys riding around here without the "M" and it bothers me.

Thats such bull and the cops here try to do that all the time. They wonder why sportbikes run. I have been pulled over before in a gas station. cop said i had a loud exhaust(it was stock f4i) then asked for insurance and everything. I had everything but at that point i didnt have to give him anything since my bike was off and i was parked. if i remember i heard a story of a kid sueing a city for that, cop just pulled him over to check. the kid had a tank cam that was on. dude got canned and the city lost a ton of money.

At anytime an officer can ask for Identification and the person will have to show it.

Maybe you looked out of place with no jacket (like ya just stole it) cause he went past your buddy and went right to you.

No harm no foul.

EDIT or maybe I read the story wrong and you did have your jacket on*** I don't know why he pulled you over!

Haha no I was on my way to get my jacket so I was just wearing a long sleeve shirt. But yea who knows the real reason and I was just to big of a puss to ask him. I was just happy it was nothing serious.

i'm sorry that happened to you. getting pulled over for a minor thing like that can be aggravating. being a LEO, we use tools like that to pull people over to look for something else. you may have matched the description of a wanted person. the cop could also just be a jerk, you never know. the whole "your tires are bald" garbage is legal but its alittle chicken sh$t too IMO.

as far as being on the bike, that does not give you the right to not provide documentation on the bike. i've given plenty of tickets when people have exited there vehicles. most try to aviod you in the first place, park quickly, and think if they get out there golden. this is not the case.

tinted windows on vehicles, loud exhausts, lights out are others to watch for. the best one is having your license plate lamp out. thats enough probable cause for a traffic stop.

Yea the cop actually seemed pretty cool, but there had to of been something about my bike because he passed my friend right up to talk to me. Oh well no big deal I guess, and if I do nothing wrong I shouldnt have anything to worry about. I just wanted to express my story and see if anything like this has happened to you

thats not true. if an officer asks all you have to give him is your name and date of birth. there was a court case about this in my city and the kid won. you can look up the court case on bikestylesinc website.

wolfman sorry i didnt explain my situation. i was walking out of the store/ gas station, and the cop walked up to me and asked. he didnt see me riding or anything he was just patrolling and saw my bike, which was pretty ugly at that point. but i still only had to give him name and date of birth at that point.

actually in your circumstance, you don't need to provide anything. thats considered a "casual contact" there is no detainment, and unless he finds a violation of your bike or some other violation, the cop can pound sand. but i will say, it may be in your best interest to comply. there's is always something if you look hard enough.

ok, i may be wrong but according to the patriot act i thought the new law was you had to give name and date of birth. now its been a few years since i was on the otherside and a few more since i am out of the academy.

one night i was driving in my gf's car and i was turning left at an intersection... the cop was sitting to my left, turning right onto the road i was turning off of.  he guns it and and gets to the block parrallel with me and makes his move just as im turnin off the road and pulls me over.  after he checks our id's (which i didnt have mine but my gf did) he tells me the lisence plate light was out. haha.

i was kinda wondering how he saw it in the first place seeing as how he never really had an angle to look at the back of the car... but it was pretty gay so i figured id add my story

EDIT: haha i wrote this before i looked and saw wolfmans comment.
i think the cop mighta been suspicious of me in teh first place because i started to slow down and stop at the light (which was green) but before i stopped all the way i realized it was green  and continued to turn left. so maybe he thought soemthin was up.

g3nesys, he prob thought your were stoned for doing something like that.

fritz, that sucks.  i would hate to get pulled over for that b.s...  for all the leo's out there, why can't you just say the real reason?  so you don't tip off a bad guy somehow?  i guess that sorta might make sense.  if a leo just told me that the bike matched a description, i'd totally understand, but telling me the tires are bold is just completely ridiculous... in my opinion.
