Hi guys I'm trying to install a battery on my old 1989 CBR hurricane 600 so that my friend can ride it (my old one randomly just quit, just bought a new one and charged it and all that great stuff). I just need to know how to put the battery in without shocking the crap out of myself because the first time I tried this I about killed myself haha. This is what I tried:

1) put the battery into the holder for it
2) connected the negative (screwed it in all the way)
3) tried to connect the positive, sparks went everywhere

I think it's because I'm a n00b at motorcycle tech and I tried doing this the wrong way and thus completed the circuit resulting in many sparks and a screwdriver lost somewhere in my garage because it flew out of my hand.

any help would be great and thanks in advance

You sure the wires are in the right terminal..........

Sure you arent touching the screwdriver too it?????

Sure its not grounding out!!!

POSITIVE FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you put it in backwards. It will spark just a little bit going in the rightway also but it will unload sparks if you put it in the wrong way.

i always put positive on first.. then negative... you'll have no problems... no sparks... i sometimes even get it screwed with my fingers! Make sure the ignition is off tho.. or else there is gonna be current

nah i wasn't putting it in wrong...in the beginning  yeah i was connecting it the wrong way, and also my screwdriver kept hitting this odd metal bar that goes over the top of the battery housing and that was what made the sparkls .

anyways.....so i got it up and running last night, today i went to start it up, all the instrumentation was great, i hit the electric start and there was a kinda "pop"ish sounding thing and all the lights went out....so im thinking that i now blew a fuse? i know it can't just be the starter because that wouldn't affect the instrumentation and it wasn't the battery, i checked it and it was fine.
SO if i really did blow a fuse my next question is do i need to order special fuses? or can i use like regualar car fuses (it's an old 1989 600 hurricane for those who didn't catch that). i'm not sure and don't want to mess anything else up hahaha.

ok so after i just posted i went back outside and tried to start the bike, for some unknown reason....and the instrumentation lit up again, thus eliminating my blown fuse theory....so....could it be that my battery isnt charged right? or maybe it's just not making a good connection?
