Alright so my cousin is 5'3 130 lbs and he just bought an 07' 1K. He has only ridden a streetbike once and it was a 600. How long before he drops it or worse gets in a wreck.

I see you have huge hopes for your cousin. Seems like you are prepairing his hospital stay a bit too early, no?

At 5'3" I'm surprised he can touch the ground! Does he have blocks tied to his shoes?
In all seriousness, he's got the odds stacked against him. Maybe he'll be one of the lucky ones? Definately not a good choice for a 1st bike though, that's for sure.

Hello all
This is my first post here and Im 5'5 140 lbs and I have a 07 CBR 1000RR and I ride it just fine.I had the bike at Tony's Track Day and me and the bike are in one piece.
I love to ride and I like sport bikes and my size or someone telling me Im too short are going to stop me for riding.
So it must be your cousin cannt ride.

Very bad choice for his first bike. Big problem out here is 600's are seen as small bikes somehow, noone ever takes into consideration power/weight ratio. All the best of luck to him and hopefully his first get off isnt his last. Size isnt the issue here as much as riding experience.

Hello all, I am new to these forums and new to the bike community.  I bought my very first bike which also happened to be the first one I ever rode about two months ago.  I love my 1000RR and find it disgusting every time someone says that it is too much bike for a newbie, or how long do you think it will be before you put yourself in the hospital.  If your cousin or anyone hurts themselves, what are you going to say? I told you so?

I put 2000 miles on my ride in the first month, you couldnt pry me off the seat. A bus pulled out in front of me on Semoran and I went down avoiding it.  It was not my fault or my lack of experience that a huge bus ran a stop sign and caused my fall.  Broken collarbone, road rash heals up and I put on my new plastics this week and I am out riding again next weekend.

5'3" ???  How the heck is he/she sitting on the thing?  Just my humble opinion, but any bike you ride should fit you. . .if your cousin hasn't done do (and I hope they have), they need to install a lowering kit.  Even if they can tip-toe the bike, the first time they have to stop where there is a depression, the bike is going over.  And NO, a 1000RR is most certainly not too much bike for a noob provided they exercise a bit of common sense.

My friend bought an 06 Gixxer 1k and made it 72 miles before he totaled it. I didn't think he would make it 50 miles. He might have made it longer if he took the MSF class.

You're not the brightest crayon in the box apparently, I find your lack of knowledge on this subject disgusting.

Buying a 1000 (I don't care how good you think you are to those that buy them as a first bike) is a terrible idea. A 600 (some 600's ie F4i, R6S, F4, F3 etc...that is) are decent to learn on, but still not the best idea but do-able. A 1000 on the other hand, forget about it.
Starting on a 1000 is just learning bad habits and fundamentals before anything else.

Who cares about height and weight that's subjective. Everyone will give you a different opinion. If you truly are looking for advice
how old is he, has he take the motorcycle safety class, is he married with kids? How much time did he have with the 600?

ok how many times,
this subject matter comes up way to often but my 2s worth.first of all this guy posted how long before his cousin goes down well never we hope. i have not seen anyone on this post try to demish, disgrace or under mine anyone you just ask for an opinion and you get one. maybe it is not what you want to hear but here thay are anyway.first of all iam 5'91/2 and with full riding gear i still tip toe in my boots iam of course a 30 inch inseam. but i have been riding for about 30 years. and yes the 1k is not the bike i would recommend for anyones first bike. but with the torque at low end it can be done but he must not let that fool him low end to flat out is totally different. trust me and every one this forum that has owned these bikes it does take some experence to open these things up and to properly handle the power and speeds you can approach in a matter of seconds i believe that most people that has not been on one of these bikes do not understand what we are trying to say. for instance you may look down the road and can see clear for say 1/2 mile and say well i am just going to see how much i can do to that point. well what you dont see is that driveway or that crossroad or that yield sign about 1/4 mile down the road and a car a child or an old man on a tractor pulls out about the time you hit 3rd gear you are traveling 135 mph what wil you do then that is what we are concerned about someone getting hurt real bad or maybe even killed. these bikes are so fast that the first bike rider has no idea what to expect untl he has some time on these things  and learn, i think most of us started on something not as aggressive as these and moved up as we felt the comfort zone i no i did but believe me no one is bashing anyone.just m 2s worth o buy the way at 5'3 i no he has to be hanging off the side to hold the bike up am i right or wrong not that it matters i hope he loves it
