First remove the lower fairings, the cct is below the carbs, above the starter, hidden in the middle of a water neck. You should use a gasket though some people do not. A little rtv goes a long way

. Also torque to 15ft-lbs and apply loctite.
that's it really, the rest is about head disassembly and reassemble, and checking tolerances.

Nice post, were there supposed to be three images? Only the second one is showing.
I pinned this since it is a pretty common question too.

Has anyone been able to remove the cam chain tensioner without removing the coolant hose that runs right next to it? I am having trouble getting a wrench on one of the CCT bolts because the hose is in the way.

So where did everyone buy their CCTs? Is any one better than another?
Thanks

I got mine from
www.servicehonda.com ,RRasco put me on to them. Way cheaper than my local dealer. I've also seen the manual ones on ebay and other bike sites.

I just replaced my CCT with another factory CCT. By removing the left fairing I was able to use a small 1/8'' socket and extention to remove both bolts from the CCT. The only problem I ran into was the coolant hose. Fortunately I was able to remove both bolts. Fortuntely for me I was able to reuse the old gasket. Overall it wasn't a bad job. My only problem right now is that I can't hear whether or not I fixed it because right now I'm fabricating a new piece of pipe for my exhaust so right now with straight headers it's to loud to tell.

Just replaced mine a few weeks ago with a manual one I purchased new on eBay. Didn''t remove all the stuff the book talks about. Just unbolted the old one and bolted up the new one. I started up the bike and tightened it up until the chain got quite.
Noticed a huge increase in horse power.
I may replace it with an OEM one once I get the head gasket replaced.

I used a 1/4" Drive ratchet with a short extension. Don''t remember the socket size. It was either 6mm or 8mm. It was tight but got it off and on without removing the hose.
