hey all,

Just purchased my first motorcycle today.. a 2003 HONDA CBR 600RR.   Just thought i would say hi to everyone as im new to the site...    Does anyone have any tips, hints, tricks that i should know about....  actually, while im here i have a question. I noticed the throttle is sticking alittle bit.  How do i go about fixing this... sorry for the rookie question....

The throttle is controlled by a cable. Try lubing your cable and see if that helps.  If it doesn't, you may have to do some more work. There is a link on the site for service manuals (General tech, I believe) where you can find the manual for doing your own maintenance. Make sure you put on a helmet and every piece of gear you have whenever you ride. Sorry to preach, but we've had quite a few crashes this summer and we'd like to see you back on here posting your experience rather than a RIP thread. Leathers are your second best friend. Your best friend is your helmet. Welcome. If you haven't, take an MSF safety course. It will help you with techniques that could save your life.

There are some good pointers compiled here:

This is great advice. I took the MSF course about eight years ago and it was the best investment before I took to the road on a motorcycle. I pretty much follow what you have in your pointers link daily. I don't leave without my Shoei, Joe Rocket, Sidi's and Racer gloves. It can get hot. But I feel naked and vulnerable without it.

+1 on everything they have said. I took the course before I even got my bike and I cant believe how much it helped me. I recommend taking it soon before you start to develop bad habits. Its amazing and worth every penny. Be safe and have fun!

i think you might need throtle sync. its expensive to get done like 200 bucks  but do wut other people said 1st. how many miles are on it, im  pretty6 sure you dont need it untill about 12k miles.... i had mine done and it was a lot smoother.

+1 on the MSF course!
+1 on the Gear 100% of the time!

ALWAYS ride within your limits. Practice, Practice, Practice...Throttle control, hard braking, body positioning..etc  Even sticky situations in a controlled safe environment like (locking up the rear brake, running over a couple pieces of gravel, braking in a turn)Being that the 600rr is your first bike, its not a good first bike but it can be done just respect its power. I've started out on a 600rr myself and I'm enjoy every mile on it so far.  If you want to do ridiculous speeds save it for the track where its legal and less variables.

Check out this link its got some great and possibly life saving advice!

pretty much. modern 600cc bikes will get you in as much trouble just as fast as a litre bike.  just be careful. pay attention 100% every time you get on it and remember if you go down dont worry about it. everyone goes down.  when and if you get in trouble.  pull the clutch
