I found this on another CBR forum. Unfortunately the pictures were taken down from the hot link. But, the instructions seem pretty straight forward on the conversion. Good luck, and enjoy!!
hope this helps on converting your H7 to H4. both of these bulbs use the same socket so no modifications are needed to run the H4's its just a matter of adding wires and re-routing old ones. You dont have to use H4's on both housings its totally up to you and doing this mod will let you go back to H7's whenever you want without having to do anything other than switching bulbs (but the highbeam fucntion will be done on a seperate ON/OFF switch), but after this mod who would want to go back to the winky ;) look?
You will need:
ON/OFF switch
Wires (perf 2 different colors)
H4 bulbs
and this yellow wire availabe from "Honda" car dealer:
i think part # is 04320-sp0-j10
modify the H4 to the same size as the H7, scissors will do the trick. cut around the edge of the H4 to make it smaller. you dont have to get this perfectly round, just enough to get it in the housing.
(H4 is the yellow bulb)
now here is the stock wiring diagram, green wire is the ground. Blue with White is the positive for the low beam and Blue is the positive for the highbeam.
now its a good time to get your 2 different colored wires and wrap them in electrical tape to make a wire harness. 1 1/2 feet long will be more than enough. i used purple and red in the diagram so you can see where to hook them up. put the yellow wires on the top post. they will click once locked and the wire will be routed by the green wire (no modification needed to put the yellow wires in).
here is the diagram on how its supposed to be after the mod.
install an ON/OFF switch , remember before the mod the bike only had one bulb on when its in the "ON" position, but after the mod it will have two. so keep the new switch on the "OFF" position before you turn the bike ON and before you turn the bike off. I bought a small toggle switch and installed it on the right intake runner cover.
also dont forget to change the headlight fuse from 10amp to 15amp. this allows you to be able to use H4's on both housings. remeber before the mod you only powered 2 filaments with the highbeam ON and after the mod you will be powering 4 filaments with the highbeam ON.
here is what i looked like with just the low beams:
here it is with the highbeams ON:
i used a yellow bulb because its more noticable and it doesnt bother the other divers on the road. you would still have to point the highbeam housing down if you want to use regular white ones. Like i said before, i've had this mod for about a while now and i have not had any problems at all (other than when my brother left my bike in the "on" position without the bike running and drained the battery.... freaking idiot!!). i also recomend this mod over the "pointing the highbeam down" method, beacuse what are you gonna use when you need to flash people?? ;)
and as you all now i will not be responsible for any damage you do to your bike blah blah blah.... :)
if you guys have any other questions you can hit me up at
dgr8wun@yahoo.com this might work on other bikes too, just see the stock diagram and and compare it to the f4i, if its done the same way then this mod will work.
