Hey guys, problem i am having is with my low fuel indicatior.  Two weeks ago it did not come on at all, and i ran out of gas.  Today the light came on...and 5 seconds later it died, tank empty.  DOH!  Obviously watching the odometer (usually do) is an easy fix, however id still like to know what to do about the light not coming on.  Is there a sensor/wiring i could check?

There are three wires at the fuel pump connection under the tank. The brown/black runs to the display and lights the reserve indicator light when low on fuel. The other two wires are a brown wire that send voltage to the fuel pump and a green wire that is the ground. If you aren't having trouble with the fuel pump both of these wires should be ok. It is either a bad connection wiring issue on the brown/black wire, the reserve sensor that is integrated into the pump, or the display unit. First check the connections and continuity of the brown/black wire. Then test that the sensor is sending a signal when there is low fuel, if not the reserve senso is bad which is integrated into the fuel pump. If none of these are the issue the LED might be bad which can't be replaced without replacing the whole display unit.

Hope this helps.

The wiring info above is for a 929. What kind of bike do you have. It should be similar but the wire colors may be different.

Snag a manual from the site in one of the stickies at the top of this forum... check out the "fuel" section and see if the fuel level sensor is integrated in the fuel pump or not. The issue, to me, sounds like a faulty or "Sticking" sensor/level.

I agree with lrn2go, I dont know how it is with the bikes, but in car * sure someone can agee to back me up here * the fuel pump and the fuel level gauge are integrated but different * makes no sense i know* but if you ask me, the floating mechanism is dead some how! not sure how sorry, but if possible shotgun the part from someone and see if it fixes it if not then try something else.
For someone more familiar with bikes am i mad for off
