Mid to high rpm problem

Ok so i picked up a 2000 honda 929 a few weeks ago.  The thing runs great under 8k rpm the problem is when it gets over that it seems to have a miss right now.  Originally when i was hitting like 9.5k rpm it was like i was hitting a rev limiter...  I since have run a full bottle (2 tanks) of chevron w/ techron fuel system cleaner through it and like i said I can get through the whole rpm band now but around 8k rpm it starts a kind of miss.  The engine just doesnt feel smooth and the rpm bounces around some. I currently dont have any FI lights on so that kind of rules out the manual trouble shooting items.  I pulled the plugs last night and they are a nice tan color.  I did replace them with new iridiums at the time and that did not correct the issue.  The bike has 25k miles on it now.  The idle hunts some but is fairly true (by hunting I mean it moves around like 50-100rpm) Not stumbling.  Any help would be greatly appriciated and I will try everything you guys suggest.

Thanks,

Jason

hmmm, might be time to start unplugging anything related to the motor running and check for corosion/loose wires/loose connections. Replug everything nice and tight once you know its clean.

check the air box. There are some pieces in there that open in higher RPMs that could be restricting you. Also, I am not sure if the 929 comes with a HTEC but make sure that is functional. That opens the exhaust after 7000 RPMs.

When were the spark plugs changed last? That fixed my hesitation problem that was occuring around 6k... Also clean the air filter...
