So who all likes to use head phones to listen to music while they ride? I'm trying to find the right helmet to work for me because I have a stereo bluetooth headset but the padding usually knocks them out of my ears when I'm riding. Any body have any suggustions/ideas?

I dont really do it, maybe my ipod on 4+ hour trips somewhere. Most helmets now a days seem to have either removable padding or already have a cutout near the ears for bluetooth. If you have an older helmet you may consider upgrading. Option 2 is how comfortable do you feel with a pen knife? Maybe take a little off the sides.

Reg...if you do a search you can probably find alot of good info.  I have never ridden with music for a couple of reasons, but one is...I can't find something that stays in my ears.  Again, do a search and you will find a ton of recomendations for different styles that work for the riders on here.

i do pretty much all the time.  look for a pair of the headphones that have the little plastic part that wraps around your ear.  they stay on pretty well...

Just be careful when you put your helmet on...they are comfortable and stay in place!  A great all around headphone too, as the in-the-ear ones never seem to fit right in my ear.

i use my regular ipod headphones...i actually run the wires underneath the padding in the helmet and the earbuds just fit nicely in the bottom corner of the "ear cutout" in the helmet

I wore headphones when taking a trip to Calfiornia on my bike..........and was being followed by Captain Slow and Hamster in the Tahoe towing their bikes.

It made the time fly by (being that we left at 1:00 am, and I rode through the night............alert and energetic.............but it get's boring when all you see is what your headlights reach. So it helped with boredom.

It's illegal to wear headphones in many states, PA being one of them. Yet, PA will allow you to use a handsfree set in one ear. I think the law is a little obsolete.
  1. People drive in their cars with their music so loud they can't hear traffic, plus cars these days are quiet on the inside.
  2. Wind Noise is so loud, I can't hear crap anyway.
  3. See Number 2: the Dba from the wind noise is probably worse for your ears where earbuds, plugs reduces the amount entering the ear canal.
I just wish law permitted me to wear them or at least in one ear. It takes me an hour and half of stop and go traffic to get home everyday. Would be nice to drown out the drone.

Anyway, like Voodoo said, do a search. There are quiet a few threads that reference communication devices. I know there are one or two, that allow, interbike communication, bluetooth and music inputs. They can be a little pricey.

My HJC CL15 is not good for ear buds or head sets, but my Z1R is great-it has cutouts for them.  I ride with music like 25% of the time.  I have music in my cell phone so I always have it with me, but most of the time I just like to hear the bike.  For freeway rideing I like the music, but for city not so much.  i got a kick ass set of ear buds at the Verizon store for $35.00 and you can even use them to talk on the phone.  Sorry I don't have the model # right now.

I have gone through about 4-5 pairs looking for the good fit/sound combination. I ended up going with these:

You can not tell by the photo, but they do not fit and stick out like normal earphones. I am not sure about the whole "noise cancellation" claim, but they are good fitting headphones for the bike with GREAT sound (much better than my $100 shure). Here is a link (look at the costomer rating): click here

Or, you can try a pair of these small, highly rates earphones:
