i just got an 02 F4i a month or 2 ago and the previous owner has a Wizards of Nos nitrous kit on it with a 2.5lb polished aluminum bottle on the back.  it also has a cut off pull-pin which would be clipped to a cord on the riders body so if he fell off, the bike would shut off (i'm assuming he drag raced the bike, but no extended rear swing arm)  the bike as 10k miles on it.  is there anything that i should be concerned about as a result of the nitrous use?  (the chain already broke on me!)  would valves need to be adjusted sooner?  would it burn up the rings?  timing chain?  any input would be appreciated.

thanks for the help

wow... you might want to just start from A and work your way to Z . is this going to be a race bike for you or a daily rider ? if the previous owner just beat on it without taking care of the regular maintenance you might want to do a tear down and check everything out before you start riding it and have it fall apart on you

I always hear horror stories about nitrous causing you to burn your valves, holes in pistons, and stuff like that.

but, I would just take the juice off, do some compression checks, leakdown tests, give the whole drivetrain a good once over, checking sprockets for wear or loose bolts, sloppy stuff like that.   once all that checks out, you can sleep well

can you tell by listening to the engine if the valves are burnt? or by power or anything else?  i'll probably eventually get the compression tested, etc. but fot the time being . . .   also, anything else to worry about?  cam timing chain??

you can usually hear the cam chain if it is loose.   did you get hurt when the chain broke?
