How's it going guys/gals?
I'm Jonathan, and i just bought a 1989 CBR600 a few days ago and been working on it (cleaning out carbs which i need to do more thoroughly apparently).
I have a few questions:
1) Anyone know of a link to pictures of exploded view of the carburators with a parts key?
2) Where are the idle mixture screws? Are they the ones right under where the carbs mate with the rubber boot manifolds? If so, they don't screw out? Only 1 full rotation?
3) What is the device which is in front of the engine (behind the front tire) which has oil lines feeding the oil cooler; yet has a manifold vacuum line going to it?
Thanks in advance.

Welcome Jonathan and congrats on the recent purchase.
The manual has an exploded view which, if I can get my scanner working at home, I will gladly scan in for you.
The idle mixture screw will be on the left side of the bike (looking forward) right behind and under the carbs. it has a metal bracket holding it in place and has a plastic knob on the end. There are two other screws on there for each carb, one that is visible with the carbs on the bike that actually drains the float bowls from those protruding nipples and there are also individual adjustments for each carb which are not as accessible and really only seen with the carbs off the bike, some can be seen but they are not in the same spot on all carbs; sometimes on the inside, sometimes on the outside. The idle adjustment bracket and knob are about half the lenght of the carbs, you cant miss it looking in the left access panel.
And I dont know what device you are talking about going to the oil cooler. Maybe an oil pump.

Thanks for the reply rrasco,
The knoib which you speak of isn't an idle mixture adjustment. It's the idle speed adjustement. It seems like the idle mixture screws are the ones that aren't easily visible/accessed unless the carbs are removed.
It would be AWESOME if you could scan those carb pictures for me man. I would truly appreciate that.
Thanks,
Jonathan

I will try to remember to take my manual to work with me where I have a working scanner. I will warn you I have a bad memory, but I will try.

Ok, I have scanned in the parts list and diagram. I am also going to attach the micro-fiche diagram that may be easier to read, but the numbers probably wont match, I didnt check.
Scanned Diagram Scanned Part List Micro-Fiche You can also use this link and select 'Carburetors'. These numbers DO match the last image.

I forgot there is also a blow apart of each single carb on the micro-fiche that I didnt attach. You can find it on that link.

Thanks a lot man.
I think i may have found the idle mixture screws. Thia is weird but if they are the ones i think, then the have a tab on them which prevents them from being turned more than 1 full turn. I'm guessing it might be a emissions/California thing?
Anyway, i was confused because i read people talking about "D" shaped screws under carb and hard to reach and what not.
Here's the pic (blurry...sorry):
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b45/PERRANFULO/0906071715.jpg If you notice right in the center of the picture there is a flat head screw. And on that screw is a tab which if rotated in either direction will hit the body of the carb rught under the screw preventing more than 1 full rotation AND preventing removal of screw.
Let me know if i'm right here.
Thanks

I think that is the one. Idle micture screw if you will call you. Notice the screw at the bottom left of the image? Those should be the one to drain the float bowl.
