I've heard that pwder coating was better than paint because it doesn't chip as easily and about the same cost.

the only problem i can see with powder coating is that it may compromise the integrity of the wheel when it goes throgh an oven. The heat may cause the properties of the metal in the wheel to change, although i could be wrong.

any one else?

I had mine powder coated in yellow and it did nothing to the wheels that I noticed even on the track. The only thing that happened was I get alot of compliments on how good it looks.

Powder coating in the oven only gets to 350, thats not that hot, and will last a lifetime. Painting is OK, but powder is the way to go. But you will have to remove the bearings. And any good painter would stick the freshly painted wheels in the oven.

You can go down to the "CBR Forum sponsers" part of the list and check out TRG-Coatings...... they do powdercoating and sound knowlegable and have some feedback..... I went with Chroming my stock wheels....they turned out Sweeeeeet.....now i gotta pull the peg assemblies, passenger pegs, etc to get them dipped...lol

Hey WolfPack, how much did it cost to chrome your stock wheels? And who did them?

$500 with exchange.....local shop/chromer here.......a very trusted friend of mine did the swap....

word to the wise.....if you do it, chase the rotor bolt holes with a tap first....some chromers dont chase them or fluff them before.....we popped (2) rotor bolts and had to take them to a machine shop for extraction because of buildup inside the hole....lol

we were able to balance them without wheel-weights also by lining up the dots/valvestem.....a little extra time spent here will keep you from having to clutter up the rim...

So you swap (exchange) your wheels for chrome ones? And is that price for both wheels? Do they take out of state work, I live in MD.

yeah....thats for both....You take them your 2 gutted rims and they give you 2 chrome empty rims....I would assume they would take out of state...you'd have to call and ask them......shipping would probably be horendus with insurance, plus i like to see what im swapping for before i do it to verify the chrome job is up to snuff....you would still need to remove all the tire/guts/bearings/disc's/sprokets and reinstall on the chrome ones.....I could have taken the bike to them and they would have done the total swap for an additional $100 or so......

surely there is a local speed/custom shop that you could use around where you live but ifyou want the numbers to the ones down here in NC, lemme know...
