That thread in the 'off topic' section about having passengers on your bike brought up some questions for myself. As a high schooler, whenever i ride to school, i invariably get asked for rides by girls (and guys too, which is a little creepy). It even happened back when i was riding my katana, cuz lets face it, most people couldnt tell the difference between a kan-o-tuna and an RC211V. In the past ive always said no, but i think i'm getting to the point where i might be able to say yes. i mean, i have an extra helmet and jacket, so thats not a problem. really, the only thing holding me back is inexperience. i've never ridden with a passenger before and am very scared to try. so are there any tips you guys have for me so i dont embarass myself with some hottie on the back of my bike?

is there any way to get more accustomed to the feeling of having weight on the back without having an actual person? ride with a really, really heavy backpack maybe? lol

start with someone light and ride slow to get the feel of it. be sure to tell she/he to lean with you and not against you. lots of new passengers will counter lean cuz they think they're going to fall over. you'll get the hang of it in no time.

That's one of the best questions I've read on here. I've been wondering the same thing myself, having never had any passengers, and I probably won't ever since it's not what I bought a bike for, but you never know.

I just got back from giving this girl a ride for the first time (me and her). I just told her to lean with me and to hold on tight. Other than that its very simple. And fun. Riding around with a hottie is nice. So just relax. its just like normal riding except depending on the size of the person braking and accelerating will be different. And dont give a ride to a guy. That just looks gay. Only Fine ladies. Good luck

Hey bro whats up? yeah i was always scared to but in a purly hetro way i took one of my buddies just to get a feel for a passengers weight. its not as bad as you think plus the chicks dig it just take everything a little more sereously. the way i look at it is when im by my self i only have to worry about my life but don't forget your the only one responsable for your passenger. When i give a girl a ride i tell her just to hold on and let me do the work well i guess that works for a few things ha. either way take it easy. later

Aight. But i still wouldnt ever do it. But thats just me. I just waited to take a girl. Plus i promised this girl the first ride. So i didnt have a chance to practice with anyone else. But it doesnt really make a difference having someone on the back.

yes someone on the back definatley changes the way the bike handles, can't ride like you normally do

Just take your time and make sure they follow your body movements to a "T"and explain what she should expect before she gets on. It is a little awkward at first but you will get the hang of it. Just be carefull cause you are responsible for the hottie on the back. I actually used to ride with this one girl so often that we were able to have a lot of fun.

yeah thats what scares me the most. if she somehow falls off and gets hurt, then i'm responsible and i have that hanging over my head. plus, i doubt my parents would let me continue to ride if something like that happened

I think it would always be wise to realize that there's the temptation to show off a little with come cute thing holdin on. But just keep in mind that they will be MUCH more pleased & impressed if you give them a safety briefing, and then take them on a really cool mellow ride that leaves them wanting to do it again soon!!!

Chicks dig guys that show by their actions they are protective & care about the girl. Will go MUCH further than making her almost pee her pants!!!

She won't fall off if she hangs on.... Also how old are you??? Just wondering cause you said your parents wouldn't let you ride anymore???

have you set up your suspension to your weight? Thats one of the first things you should do, then you should set up the suspension to support the additional weight of the rider... I can't stress this enough, if you don't the rear end will sag like a car with blown shocks. Bike will handle a lot different but thats a no brainer... You need to tell the rider to do exactly as you do, if you lean, they lean. If you scoot up, they scoot up. As far as the weight goes on your body, you can't really get used ot it until you have a 110lb person leaning on you, as my girl did the couple of times I gave her a ride.. it's worst on the brakes so brace yourself when stopping... people don't realize how much they need to hold themselves up... tell them to grab you with there legs if they can, not just there arms...

i'm a whopping 17 years old lol

great advice everyone. i especially loved Jet Jockey's post lol. Thats so true. The first time my dad took my mom out on his bike, she got pretty scared, but then learned to enjoy it and lean with the bike, etc.

I couldn't say it any better than this. Make sure that you periodically, while keeping your eyes on the road ahead, reach back and rub her knee. Do it absentmindedly, almost as an afterthought. When at stoplights, put your hand over hers, look back and ask if she's okay. You can thank me later.

As ive posted in the passenger threads..im not keen on riders because we as humans cant read minds. If something happens and u have to worry about two people instead of numero uno...thats trouble....Enjoy the hottie... ive got no pegs and a cowl...but i ride within my limits ...alone...LOL

Naw, its all about confidence. If she's feels comfortable enough with you to climb on the back of a land rocket with you chances are she'll be receptive. Go with your gut and be confident. Women can smell hesitation and uncertainty like dogs can smell fear.
