What do you think about riding on a pluged rear tire. mine is a dunlop qualifier. My friend that runs a power sports shop has some special plugs that are umbrella type plugs that are coated with a glue and inserted with an injecter gun. says they are realy reliable. he has a customer that has been riding on a tire with seven of these plugs in one tire and has had no leaks.

considering that discount tire wont even plug a car tire twice i think 7 is a little much
i wouldnt risk it myself because tires are cheap

Exactly. Tires are terribly important on a bike. Just replace it.

That "special" plug sounds like the same ones I used in the '70s when I was a VW mechanic!
If your tire still has a lot of tread and you DON"T stunt or ride twisties I would go with one plug for a daily cruizer.
I ride on one wheel ever so ofton so I would buy a new tire.

those are patch-plugs...really the only way to go you should be fine as long as its close enough to the middle of the tread where the patch wont have to bend in a ridiculous way to follow the curve in the inside of the tire

ya i dont know why that policy is in place.. prolly just to sell more tires... as long as the patches are not overlapping each other they really dont hurt anything

sell it to a stunter. i mounted a brand new pp 2ct 55 rear (210.00). 200 miles later i got a finishing nail in the center. removed the nail and it leaked. brought it to my guy at discount tire, he hot patched/plugged it. and then sold it for 50.00 to a stunter. my life is woth every dime for a new tire. i ride hard, ride track, and thru the twisties. i couldnt imagine being in a near full lean and the plug failing and wrecking my almost 9,000.00 investment.

a patch-plug will not "fail"... you cannot lose one or blow one out like an old fashioned tar plug... it has a patch attached to it on the inside of the tire, it will never fall in the tire, it will never fall out of the tire. Out of the literally thousands of patch plugs that came through my shop while I was there, i saw 3 come back leaking a little air...and all three were because they were repairs that shouldn't have been done in the first place

man... I would NOT trust a plug on a speedbike. Maybe grandpa's old harley that only goes straight. that's just me.

You're best off getting a new tire, but I've had plugs on my bike before. It's an OK temp solution if you're not going to be doing any hard or long riding...
If you're gonna get a mushroom plug, the tire has to come off. You might as well just buy another one.
For a temp thing, I'd just get a regular one with some rubber cement and that'll work, but again, take it easy and check you're tire pressure regularly!

tires without plugs have been known to blow out. having a defect should only increase the probability of this occuring. why does this question even come up.
my bike and body are worth more than $200 to buy and mount a new tire.
i actually can not believe that a shop would plug a tire even at a customer request. with the capablility of doing 150 mph plus with ease it seems like a law suit waiting to happen.
